We got to go on a field trip to Kilgus farm with our co-op a couple weeks ago. We got to see a cow get their hooves trimmed. We learned the differences between raw, pasteurized and organic milks. They explained to us the cows diets and why they are specific to them. They are family owned and operated it. It was a great time learning with them and teaching the kids about farming responsibilities. #homeschooling #homeschoolfieldtrip #homescoolcoop

At the last minute today we decided to go to the zoo. We got there as the schools were leaving so it was glorious! We got to hang out with the lemurs, feed the giraffes, see the gorillas get their snacks, and watch sloth bears play. We spent the day exploring some special spots in Saugerties. First, we walked a cute little nature preserve path to an old lighthouse, learning a good lesson about high and low tide along the way as we trudged through a little mud. The lighthouse had a nice deck (only open on weekdays) with tables and plants throughout and a gorgeous view of the river. I highly recommend this spot if you ever find yourselves in Saugerties. Next, we drove about 10 minutes south to another spot called the Falling Waters Preserve. This was a little bit of a harder trek than we realized (definitely do not recommend the white trail for toddlers and clumsy kids), but the red trail was nice. We did both 🥴. But in the middle of our hike, we came to beautiful waterfall with a perfect spot to picnic. We got some much needed rest here, throwing stones, drawing with oil pastels and eating lunch. Admittedly, the journey back to the car was less than ideal (forgot to bring the carrier #toddlerprobs ), but it turns out that getting some ice cream on the way home fixed things up nicely. All in all, a great field trip in the beautiful Hudson Valley! #homeschoolfieldtrip

This was such an awesome field trip to the @siskiyousmokejumpers museum. We learned so much about the history of what the smokejumpers did in our area and why their work is so valuable (and needed still!). In this photo, you can see an image of a smokejumper parachuting down toward a wildfire. Gary was a wonderful guide with 15 years of personal experience as a smokejumper to draw from.

Sometimes #homeschoollife means field trips. Last Friday the kids and I had the opportunity to visit a Civil War re-enactment. There, we were able to visit the camps, learn about the weaponry, food, camp life, and more! We learned a ton and it was a great hands-on experience. Homeschooling has been my favorite adventure. I've always dreamed of hands-on experience learning for school, especially history. It was a blast to visit our nations capitol. We visited most of the Smithsonians, the Capitol, Library of Congress, Ford's Theater, and the Peterson House, walked along the National Mall and checked out many of the monuments. Before D.C. we visited Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Yorktown, and Mt. Vernon. And we so enjoyed the history there, learning more on the tactics of the battles and seeing the fields where our country was so bravely fought for. Last week our church homeschool group enjoyed a fun field trip to Ford Nature Center. For the second half of our trip, we toured the all access walking trail, learning about native vs invasive plants, decomposer mushrooms, and the natural ways of the forest. While spending quality time with my family in North Carolina, we couldn’t help but notice this charming cat cafe during our daily drives. Yesterday, we finally decided to make a stop! What an enchanting and delightful spot to sip boba and lattes while enjoying the company of the most charming cats and kittens! 🐱☕ We’ve explored other cat cafes before (given my allergies prevent me from having a feline friend at home), but this one truly shines as one of the brightest and most cheerful ones we’ve had the pleasure of visiting.
