If you know me you know that I am NOT a morning person even though I wake up really early, my body just doesn’t get into it’s groove for awhile SO I set a goal for myself this morning to do at least half of my steps goal before breakfast (which I crushed). If I am being completely honest, I actually LOVED getting that early morning workout in, I felt so good although I did need to get in a quick nap later in the day (3ish). I am going to TRY to make this a regular occurrence HOWEVER I am not making any promises. Got in 6,290k before breakfast and ending the day with 13,987k. Day 4 of my 12k per day for 372,000k for the month of May, ✔️. Why does any of this matter really? I just came out of a year from hell, where I had to prioritize the health and well being of my father over my own. WELP, time to throw in the towel for the time being and stop my arm workouts. 2023 was the most emotionally difficult year of my life, as I took care of my ailing, elderly father. As I dedicated 100% of my time to caring for him, I, un begrudgingly, gave up my own life of health and fitness. I am so happy that I got my parents love of cooking. I am a caregiver by nature and my favorite way of caring for others is by cooking for them. As I have mentioned, I am currently doing a August Challenge that I made up for myself in my post-surgery weight loss journey. Yes, it has been almost 9 months since my surgery and many would say that I have had plenty of time to have gotten back into shape. First: your body needs time to heal completely after the trauma of major surgery. Second: the type of surgery I had basically changes the composition of the body so it takes time to figure out what works for me NOW. Third: I have had an enormous amount of stress in my life for the past 8 months which effects every single aspect of my life, including weight loss. ALL of this combined means that my body just won’t react to “diet” and exercise in the same way it used to. So, I am now trying to find what works for me NOW. Prior to my surgery, any extra fat I had would for the most part go straight to my booty/hips and of course, my chest but now it’s going straight to my belly so this is something I am struggling with and focusing on now. This pic was taken this past Saturday Aug 5, 2023. People ask why I take pics? This is why, it shows me what I am working with, my starting point. If I take another pic one month later, I SHOULD 🤞🏼 see a change IF I am doing everything I should be doing. If not, then I know I need to try a different approach. Not to mention, it serves as motivation. Just do what works for YOU! Don’t listen to the haters and nay-sayers. If it feels right to you then follow your gut (pun intended). You may be right, you may not. It’s a lot of trial and error. As they say “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. You’re not going to get your dream body in a day either. My numbers yesterday were NOT good. 😡 Dad is back home from the hospital and I have not yet mastered (or even slightly figured out) how to juggle taking care of him, cooking, cleaning, laundry, trying to get some work done, finding time to exercise and getting enough sleep. Dad is being discharged from the hospital today and, of course, he had a dinner request. This time, thankfully, it was a lot easier to find at the grocery store. Dad requested Picadillo (Cuban style ground beef)…I also decided to make Garbanzos (not to be eaten together, that would be a weird combination) cause we need to get his strength back up and fatten him up a bit. Making my dad some arroz con pollo to try and fatten him back up (nothing like some good, home cooked Cuban food to put some meat on your bones). I had gotten dad up to 117lbs but now, after 1 week in the hospital, he is back down to 105lbs. Just give me a week or two and he’ll be right back up there. Was able to get in some cardio today without it hurting my back (still a bit sore but getting better). I’m calling that a WIN! Did 30 minutes on the elliptical plus 5 minute cooldown, then did 15 minutes on the row machine 💪🏼. This home gym comes from @lauralouisegilbert. This amazing video shes created showing the transformation. I cant right much as IG has limited space. Lauren had to say "2020 hit us all like a hard smack in the face! After hitting a low myself it was time to take control back and sort things out 💪 I used to travel over an hour to get to a decent gym, somewhere I'd look forward to going, for the people, the equipment and the atmosphere but financially and logistically travelling over an hour to get to a gym just wasn't practical any more. Coupled with the restraints and restrictions of lockdown I was left with no outlet, no gym and feeling pretty isolated. I woke up one day and decided enough is enough, I was going to build my own garage gym! I couldn't afford to buy equipment so set about learning how to weld and work with metal to build my own! I made a Smith Machine, (which glides like hot butter on toast!) and a set of weight plates to include; 1.25, 2.5, 5 and 10kg plates. All from scratch and all with off cuts from a local engineering firm! I cleared, painted, sorted flooring (rubber from eBay and plastic insulation matting, again from off cuts), even have a sofa for mid-set rest! ..mainly because I had nowhere else to put it! 😂 ...I also have a bespoke adjustable mini bench (I designed), some old Kettlebells, Cardio machines that had been gathering dust and I've got plans to build more strength equipment - professionally that's what I do, innovate fitness equipment! So time to get to it! 👊 It's not as flashy as some home gyms out there but I'm thrilled with this little transformation!!! It was a graft and a half but so worth it and so much fun! The whole experience has taught me loads, given me purpose and control in an out of control time, it's been like therapy! Now I've got a garage gym I'll never be bound to crazy rules, regs and logistical challenges again. I have my own space and equipment I can use any time, any how and I frickin love it!
