"Lostery 3" is related to poker game. It includes real objects (a poker case with dice, poker chips and cards), built and painted objects (34 painted styrofoam discs with various dimensions, 20 painted wooden cubes), a triptych of paintings and a video animation synchronized with electroacoustic music. The black and white digital drawing is the result of a montage of drawings on paper made with Adobe Photoshop. This montage has then been animated with Adobe After Effects in synchronization with my 6-channel electroacoustic music work "Ipso primero". Australia’s Media and Communications Authority AMCA has entered into talks with officials from the Curacao's Gaming Control Board (CGCB), regarding the offering of games of chance to Australia-based B2C customers. From the perspective of the Australian laws, the offering of gaming services without a domestic license is illegal. The AMCA as the authority in charge has engaged in blocking illegal websites since the early days, leading to around 950 Curacao-licensed or -operated websites being blocked for Australian players currently. Despite the fierce approach towards online gambling services, the AMCA has had hard time to get through to the Curacao government on that matter, for years. Now, as announced by an AMCA spokesperson, things in regard to the international collaboration with Curacao authorities have significantly improved and officials from both government agencies have agreed to cooperate more closely, in order to counter illegal gambling activities. The change of mind o comes with the establishment of the CGCB and the new licensing regime in Curacao at the door, providing for a more sound, robust and reliable regulatory framework for offshore gaming. The new licensing regime is expected to come into force during the year 2024, with the CGCB accepting applications for licences under the new regulation already. Grauer Pre-Calculus Class Presents Carnival Games From Clayton Payne, Pre-Calculus Teacher: The Pre-Calculus class presented their annual Carnival Games event during lunchtime on March 7, where Grauer students and teachers could play some fun games of chance using "Grauer Bucks" in the place of real money. In Pre-Calculus class, students are tasked with demonstrating an understanding of the notion of discrete random variables by using them to solve for the probabilities of outcomes expressed as multivariable functions. An application of this understanding is in calculating the mathematical expectation of a combination of events, important work in both the insurance industry as well as in games of chance. Each year, students design, build, and test their own carnival games as a project. Using the average probability of success from their testing phase, students then calculate the mathematical expectation of their game, which is the average number of Grauer Bucks they expect to make per player. During the Carnival Games event, the Pre-Calculus students collect data each time their game is played. Afterwards, they are asked to compare and contrast their results with their predictions, reflecting on any similarities or discrepancies. A tiny Tudor bone dice from a recent lark. It’s really, as most dice, harder to date than that, but Tudor sounds better than post medieval (16th to 18th century) and at 5mm it’s just about the same size as the smallest one recovered from the Mary Rose, so Tudor it is as far as I’m concerned. It seems odd that dice were so small, making them harder to manipulate, and so much easier to lose. One of the theories is that, as gambling and game playing was frowned upon and prohibited for most people except the aristocracy, dice were tiny so as to be easier to hide. “In 1542, a comprehensive act was passed against popular games. No artisan, husbandman (a small farmer lower in status than a yeoman), labourer, fisherman, waterman or servingman was permitted to play tennis, bowls, quoits, dice, skittles or other unlawful games, except at Christmas. Shove ha’penny, too, was banned. The leather is all in great shape with a rich, dark patina. It’s all hand stitched and has artwork tooled into it featuring a native figure and calendar that looks to be mesoamerican in style. The interior of the horseshoe and the cup are lined in green felt. The underside of the horseshoe is a solid sheet of leather. The original dice with the set are the “poker dice” that fit perfectly into the neat, recessed cubes. I’ve tossed in a set of traditional dice as well, so you’ll have the option for either. Condition is very good. All of the stitching is super solid, some light surface signs of age to the leather that only add the look. Horseshoe measures 12” tall and about 11” wide.
