Eric Burdon formou o The Animals em 1963 com seu colega de escola John Steele. Com um som distinto e focado em rhythm and blues, The Animals ganhou destaque rapidamente e se tornou um dos maiores representantes da Invasão Britânica, junto com The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dave Clark Five, The Who e The Kinks.
