Earl of Sandwich appreciation post! Swipe to see why... . We ate here twice for dinner on our most recent trip and the previous trip we had breakfast. We all loved it, and the kids loved that they could get pizza and hotdogs too (a kids meal is decent value and comes with a delicious cookie). A special mention to the bread and butter pudding which was more like a banana bread but still really good. We don't book table service or do meal plans as we like the freedom of just eating what we feel like, every time we have come here it has been quiet especially if you sit upstairs and on a nice day you've got the perfect view of the balloon going up and down. Finally got out to Langley to try Earl of Sandwich. This famous franchise originating from Florida might be best known for their LA and Las Vegas locations. At $12 for a sandwich, I'd say the prices are fairly reasonable but does put it above Subway, Quiznos, Tim Hortons, etc. by a decent margin. There's an option to "make it a combo" for $4 but I passed on the bag of chips and fountain pop. I feel like it'd be better if they offered a side of soup instead of just chips/cookies. We ordered the Full Montagu and the Cuban to try. The Full Montagu has roast beef and turkey, but the highlight was their Earl's Mustard Sauce which is a little bit sweet while still offering a noticeable Mustard kick. The Cuban is carnitas + ham + a giant pickle in the middle and for me the pickle was a bit overwhelming and hid a lot of the other flavours. I'd say this is a solid 7/10 sandwich but of both the sandwiches I tried, the meat is forgettable and honestly could've been any random mystery meat. One could argue the balance just isn't there and the pairings are what you mainly taste. The bread is a Ciabatta and it's a bit tough for me but does offer excellent structural integrity. This to me is what separates a chain/franchise sandwich that just needs to be consistent vs. a craft deli sandwich. Perhaps that's why the Earl hasn't set up shop in New York or Toronto where a good deli sandwich is fairly easy to come by.
