Jakson Spires Known as “Thunderfoot” by his close friends, which referenced his Native American roots, Jakson Spires was born April 12, 1951 in Jacksonville, Florida. He rose to fame in Blackfoot, a southern rock band he helped found and pioneer throughout the 1970s. He wrote or co-wrote many songs for the band also. Like many groups, they disbanded to reform, but the original members separated in 1986 for a long season. Jakson had lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan –from 1978 to 1995, where their “Strikes” album had been produced by Al Nalli. Jakson played in other bands such as, The Jim Tate Band, a country blues sort of band that featured the tremendous natrual vocals of the late Jim Tate, and Drivin' Sideways, The Watusi's, Conqueroots, and he even recorded several CD’s. Eventually, he was the driving force behind assembling Southern Rock Allstars, alongside ex Molly Hatchet guitarist, Dave Hlubek. When Blackfoot reassembled in 2004 with original members Charlie Hargrett and Greg T Walker, they sought the talents of Bobby Barth to assume Rickey Medlock’s place in the band, as Medlock was playing with Lynyrd Skynyrd –and continues with Skynyrd to this day. As more of a reunion-farewell tour, while working hard to capitalize upon earlier band success, tragedy struck in March, 2005. Spires suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and fell into a coma, passing just 3 days later from a huge brain aneurysm. Survived by his wife, 4 kids, and several grandkids, Jakson was 53 years old. Known for his powerhouse drumming style, Jakson Spires was another key figure who helped pioneer and shape the great southern rock genre. Disco della serata ascoltato senza particolare attenzione (facevo altro) e d'altronde non ci sono nemmeno i testi nel booklet e la musica è un #MelodicHardRock e #AOR con qualche lieve tratto progressivo: ricordo che il chitarrista #antztrujillo citava i #DreamTheater tra le sue bands preferite come il Singer #DannyMartinez nell'intervista sul mitico #MetalShock dove ancora una volta scriveva @giannidellacioppa #GiannidellaCioppa e lo dirigeva all'epoca Francesco Pascoletti in arte "Fuzz Fuzz"😁🤙 @fuzzmail con una recensione gasatissima del buon #FabioZampolini , forse un po' esagerata. In effetti non è questo capolavoro, è un buon album soprattutto nei brani delle bands, ma ci sono troppe Covers e si sente la poca convinzione nel farle perché non appartengono al background della band (chiara la pressione del produttore #BobbyBarth degli #Axe ...diceva bene #MichaelBolton , quando si fanno Covers devono appartenere al tuo background e al tuo repertorio, altrimenti si sente il lavoro "su commissione" forzato e non verace). Sicuramente la band con #TheOne sotto nome #GuildofAges (qui si chiamava #Cita o #CaughtintheAct , ma essendoci una band pop più famosa di loro in quel periodo con lo stesso nome, furono costretti a cambiare) realizzerà il suo album migliore. Si sente l'influenza di #ZakStevens come di #BonJovy nello stile vocale caldo del baritono Danny Martinez e il chitarrista Trujillo ha un bel stile personale, ma poi le troppe Covers settantiane fanno perdere intensità e coerenza al disco. Un album da 7 o 7,5 . Uscì per la defunta #MTM tedesca e la #IRS (quella dei #BlackSabbath con #TonyMartin e dei Cult heroes #ShokParis )e tra le labels che distribuivano il disco in vari territori c'era anche la partenopea @frontiersmusicsrl che all'epoca muoveva i primi passi distribuendo altre labels AOR e Melodic Hard Rock mantenendo vivo un genere che in quegli anni era davvero solo per culturi e che grazie alla label napoletana è tornato a essere popolare e forte. Axe – Nemesis (1983) Produced by Al Nalli Opening song, 'Heat in the Street', absolutely smokes; a veritable Southern-fried metallic juggernaut. Killer lead breaks all over the thing and stella lead vocals by Bobby Barth. Tough sounding keyboards – that's right, I said TOUGH sounding keyboards. Song just rips and that's all there is to it. Initially when I heard this a decade ago, the rest of the album was a bit disappointing, but with an opening song like 'Heat in the Street', how could it be anything BUT disappointing. With repeated listens, it's apparent the rest of the album is pretty damn solid – kinda like a heavy metal Bruce Springsteen, maybe – if that sounds horrible, then I've done this album a disservice, because I'm trying to say it's good – I'd probably actually LIKE Springsteen if he had have went heavy metal in the early 80s. I think Axe are still going, but the only original member is the aforementioned Bobby Barth who was also in Blackfoot briefly and played in Angry Anderson's band for the Blood From Stone album in 1990. Last week my good friend @xavierrr_g posted the classic Blackfoot Live:Highway Song. I told him I just picked up the new Blackfoot Live but hadn't opened it yet. I was under the impression it was the new Blackfoot band put together by Ricky Medlocke to carry the torch. Turns out this is from 2007 with Bobby Barth from Axe taking over for Medlocke. There's no denying the songs are great but it almost comes off as a cover band. Medlocke had an enormous presence on stage that Barth doesn't quite live up to. Axe Offering Released in 1982 3rd Studio Album I did not know who this band was until recently when a friend of mine gave me this album. I do recognize or remember the first track "Rock 'N' Roll Party In The Streets" which I do like. Looks like this a very melodic rock band with a good emphasis on keyboards. Not as much guitar as I would have expected for a band named Axe. Overall I'm liking what I hear and looking forward to finding the remaining Axe records in my future vinyl hunting travels. Music reminds me of a mix of the band Europe and Survivor put together. Side One Rock 'N' Roll Party In The Streets - Great chorus, very memorable. #StanBush was never what you'd call an A-list artist but by the mid-nineties he might as well have been on Mars as far as the mainstream music scene was concerned. I was vaguely aware of his career during this furrowed, anti-AOR period but it wasn't until a few years ago that I finally got my ears around the albums. #EveryBeatOfMyHeart marks a substantial turning point in the Stan Bush saga. #JonathanCain, #JimVallance, and #BobbyBarth wrote and produced most of the material here so you know exactly what you’re getting: atmospheric adult-oriented melodic-rock ala #BadEnglish, #Starship, #Loverboy, and #REOSpeedwagon with a heavy emphasis on ballads and lush mid-tempo anthems. This record lacks the hi-tech, big-city edge of the 1987 “Barrage" release but if you like your AOR squeaky-clean and saccharine-rich you’ll find lots to love here. Some of the tunes are a little too simple and by-the-numbers for my taste but it's hard to argue with big, radio-polished monsters like #ItDontGetBetterThanThis, #AintThatWorthSomething, #CantHideLove, and #Landslide. Happy Birthday to Bobby Barth. (December 5, 1952) He is a #singer , #songwriter , #recordproducer , and #guitarist . Barth joined the Colorado group #wakefield in 1969, as #leadguitarist and singer. Barth launched #babyface around the same time, with Colorado drummer #bobbymiles , California bassist #miketurpin , and Wisconsin keyboardist #edgarrileyjr . After a short time Barth, Turpin and Riley joined forces with guitarist #michaelosborne and drummer #teddymueller to reform the Babyface concept and emerged in Gainesville, FL as #alien . In 1979 MCA Records penned a deal with #pop music label Curb Records to form a company that would co-produce #rock bands. Alien was the first band to sign with the MCA-Curb label and after a quick name change to #axe , due to the release of the motion picture Alien gave birth to two records, “Axe” and #livingontheedge . The band continued to tour and record, until in 1984 Osborne and Barth were involved in a fatal car crash. Barth escaped with only spinal injuries, but Osborne was killed in the crash. Barth recorded his #solo record, #twoheartsonebeat , as a tribute to Osborne in 1985. Barth joined @officialblackfoot , in 1984 after recovering from the crash. He played with Blackfoot until their breakup in 1986. After the breakup of Blackfoot, Bobby continued to tour with Blackfoot's #rickymedlocke until leaving in late 1986. Barth moved back to Los Angeles and partnered with UFO drummer #andyparker to open #satellitesoundrecording. Barth started to #engineer and #produce projects with the help of the producer of his solo record 2 Hearts, Was Not Was bassist #brucenazarian . Happy Birthday @bobbybarth !
