I just got finished trying the solo mode of Nova Roma by @half_a_kingdom_games @txemico and distributed by @25thcenturygames . After my first multiplayer game, I instantly knew this was going to be a keeper. As you can see the coins and resource tracking tokens have been upgrade. Production is great and gameplay as well. The solo game in particular is SUPER easy to run. Turns/Rounds are very quick in solo. Essentially you are trying to get more points than the AI…It starts with plenty and constantly gets points for things. You need to keep it from gaining points which can require you to delay the action you want to do most. Be careful though because the red soldiers may block your chance at taking those actions. It is a nice puzzle and push your luck that is similar in the multiplayer game. I want to tackle a 2/3 player game and then I should be ready to give my final thoughts, but so far this one is GREAT! My third game of Nova Roma and it's starting to dig its claws right in 🐾. It's the kind of simple-to-operate solo mode that I really enjoy - some rudimentary space blocking and card cycling - but here it's also competing in all areas of the game and scoring points. Will I beat it in the chariot race 🏇? Will I build more things than it 🏛️? Can I sail my ships faster than it 🚢? Can I stop it from grabbing the higher value cards on display 🃏? Can I reach a specific spot before it blocks me 🚫? The answer to all of those questions is currently 'no, because I'm terrible at this game'...but I'm going to try and get better and topple it - even though easy mode is already proving to be quite the challenge 😤. My only tiny worry is that the Objective cards that award critical 'win or lose' end game points are reliant on the luck of the draw - and that last game only one Objective card was drawn 🤷♂️. It all balances out in the long run, I suppose, and in the end, fun was had which is all that matters 😄. Anyone else playing this one at the moment? In celebration of it being exactly 11 months until National Board Game Day 2025, I thought we could continue our journey through Ryan Laukat’s world of Arzium! This is the second game set in that world, Islebound by @redravengames - it is a 2-4 player game for ages 13+ and takes between 60-120 minutes to play. In Islebound, players are sea captains trying to earn more renown than any other player. Each turn, a players ship must move depending on how far their ship can sail. Then an action is done and any number of free actions. One action is to visit a location on the map by paying the entry cost and then accessing the towns action like getting fish, wood, pirates, sea monsters and much more. Instead of visiting the island location they can attack a red banner town or use diplomacy for blue banner towns, both give ownership and spoils. Another action is to hunt for treasure, the player gains all the coins that are stored on the treasure map. The first free actions is to compete an event by being in the event location and supplying the requirement. The second is to buy a building by paying the coin cost on the banner on the card. Buildings can also be built by visiting one of the locations and paying the amount of fish and wood required but that would be a visit or diplomacy action. Buildings give players abilities throughout the rest of the game and are worth renown points. Another way to get renown points is to brag about yourself, where both you and potentially other players gain points. The Metropolis Expansion adds more buildings that are harder to gain but offer more. The story book of Above and Below is not in Islebound, but by immersing yourself in the text of the events and brags it can be found. Wyrmspan with friends last night. It was fine but I felt it had the same problem for me that base only Wingspan has, a lack of engine building for everyone playing. It felt like a couple of players managed to get something going early while others (5P game) struggled trying to make something work. . The explore action is interesting and the illustrations are pretty. I miss flavour text on the cards. 🎴 understand why they were removed and put in the almanac instead but still, it missing some charm for me like the bird flavour text/factoids offer in Wingspan. . Dune Imperium en solitario. Estoy ansioso por probar con humanos reales, pero hasta ahora, me la he pasado genial. El automa de este Dune me estaba dando paliza. 5 ronda, con una gran ventaja, saca su 3er trabajador y todo parecía perdido. Me levanto de la mesa (casi le hago flip) pero decidí continuar y en la 9na ronda lo paso y consigo 11 puntos. En fin, las sensaciones que me deja este juego son estupendas sobre todo por que no sabes hasta bien entrada la partida, por la aleatoriedad que aportan las cartas del automa, si te alcanza para ganar o te quedas atrás. Cuando ya no nos queden agentes, haremos un turno de Revelación, en el que utilizaremos el valor de Persuasión de las cartas que NO hayamos jugado para comprar nuevas cartas del mercado, mejorando así nuestro mazo. Y al final de la ronda, se resolverá un conflicto en el que el ganador obtendrá recompensas. Hasta que algún jugador alcance los 10 puntos y dispare el final de la partida. 💬 Dune Imperium es una de los mejores juegos de su género, con un equilibrio perfecto entre la construcción de mazos y la colocación de trabajadores. Además, es ligeramente asimétrico, gracias a un par de habilidades especiales de cada líder, lo que siempre se agradece. A los más cuadriculados les resultará extraña la presencia de las cartas de Intriga, con efectos desde poco impactantes hasta muy potentes, pero esto también da un punto de sorpresa que, en nuestra opinión, le sienta de maravilla. Piratoons (2015) @actingamesbe et @fishingcactus 👥 2 – 4 👶🏻 8+ 🕰️ 30min 🧩 BGG 6,4/10 Dans ce jeu, chaque joueur incarne un pirate avec le but d’assembler un bateau impressionnant avec un équipage performant pour gagner le plus de Points de Victoire. Chaque tour, trois tuiles Bateau et six tuiles Equipement sont révélées. Un sablier est retourné et les joueurs peuvent ensuite poser leurs six pions sur les tuiles qui les intéressent en sachant que la tuile est gagnée par le joueur avec le plus de pions dessus (s’il y a une égalité, les joueurs en question sont retirés de cette tuile) et les pions non posés rapporte un Doublon par pièce. Après l’écoulement du sablier, les joueurs récupèrent les tuiles qui ont gagnés pour les ajouter sur leur bateau. Puis, une phase d’Enchère a lieu avec toutes les tuiles qui n’ont pas été récupérées ainsi que toutes les tuiles Equipement des tours précédents. Chaque joueur prend un certain nombre de Doublons en main et tout le monde les révèle en même temps ; le joueur avec la valeur la plus haute peut commencer à choisir une tuile, puis les autres joueurs font pareil en ordre décroissant de Doublons (les égalités s’annulent ici aussi). Le jeu se termine après huit manches. Les joueurs gagnent des points par rapport aux majorités de certains éléments (plus de Voiles, Doublons et Barils), les bonnes connexions de Coquillages sur le bateau et les familles de tuiles (triple Equipement identique, triple Equipement différent mais même famille, et double Equipement identique). Les joueurs perdent des points pour chaque mauvaise connexion de Coquillages et pour la majorité en emplacements vides. UNO - Show 'Em No Mercy - a brutal game, fun for the whole family! 😂 The game remains simple, but winning isn't quite as straightforward anymore. The addition of Reverse Draw 4, Draw 6 and 10, Skip Everyone, Discard Colour, Swap, and Pass present lots of opportunities and challenges. Since UNO was released 50 years ago, the contentious stacking rules have been adapted and tweaked to suit every family (IYKYK). The stacking rules are broader in this version, and can quickly see you booted from the game. There are two ways to win - play your last card, or be the last man standing. If you hit 25 or more cards, you're eliminated. A Draw 10 is brutal 😬 Some ways to stay below the 25-card hand limit: 1. If you are 'lucky' enough to have a bunch of Skip Everyones you can play them all in a row. 2. Be sure to stack those Draw cards and push someone else over the hand limit! 3. Discard all of one colour - this can be a huge power move if you can stash the same colour - but beware of the threat of having to pass your hand to someone before you make your move! This game can turn on its head in one move! Play 1: On the Underground New York / Paris Our first play of the New York board, and any On the Underground game. Route building with an element of puzzle logic and 'point salad'. As it was our first game we did not have our strategies down pat; however, we enjoyed the numerous ways you can score points throughout the game. Playing at two players we really enjoyed the first half of the game, though found it a bit long. This may be due to the fact that we were still figuring things out, or because we were building four different routes at two player. 🇬🇧I've played #catinthebox for the first time so here is a #firstimpression. I'm going to be honest here, I am a terrible person to give a first impression. I don't really like trick taking games. I can however see how this is quite a new take on trick taking games. You all have the same color cards and you have to decide the color after playing it. It also gives a little bit of an extra twist with a kind of puzzle mechanism. I however had a hard time wrapping my mind about the scoring of this game. I would probably say, if you like trick taking games, this is probably a game you will really enjoy that brings something new to the table. If you don't however.. maybe just don't buy it. 🇳🇱Ik heb Cat in the box voor de eerste keer gespeeld dus hier is een #eersteindruk . Ik ga eerlijk zijn, ik heb een verschrikkelijk slechte optie om hier een eerste indruk over te geven. Ik ben namelijk niet echt van de slagen spellen. Ik kan echter wel zien hoe dit een nieuwe manier van een slagenspel is en hoe dit echt wat anders brengt. Je hebt allemaal dezelfde kleur kaarten en je bepaald de kleur na het spelen. Het geeft ook een beetje een extra twist met een puzzel achtig mechanisme. Ik had echter moeite met de scores te begrijpen van dit spel. Zatím proběhla jen partie ve dvou a je jasný, že je toho plný důl, co ještě všechno objevovat, ale už teď vím, že K.H. bude na stole hodně často. Kromě toho, produkční stránka hry je něco, co jsem obdivoval počas celého duelu. Ať už ilustrace, do očí bijící kontrast barev a použití stříbřitých odlesků, které je prostě dokonalé, nebo hráčské žetony vyrobené z recyklovaného přírodního materiálu (Re-Wood). Aerion is a card game where you will be rolling dice to try and get the resources needed to build 6 flying machines and win the game. This is a solo/co-op game for 1-2 players and is part of the oniverse series of games. This is the 1st game in this collection of games that I have played and it is absolutely fantastic. I tried it solo and was a good challenge, I literally won the game on the very last card and this was only because I had 2 tokens left that allowed me to change the face on the dice. If I want to ramp up the difficulty or try something different there are 6 expansions to try inside the box! The artwork is colourful and weird and I love it. The game is quick and easy to learn and understand, it comes in a small beautifully made box. Und weiter ging es mit "Xenoshyft" - wieder im Spiel zu zweit. Zu sehen sind die Bilder in der letzten Runde der dritten Welle (Runde 9). Meine Frau hat mit ihren Truppen tapfer ihre Seite weggekämpft (Bonus durch Kasernen), während ich mich mehr auf meine Tools und Bomben verlassen habe (Bonus durch Forschungslabor). Unterstützt worde sich natürlich, soweit das ging, gegenseitig - aber die Kombo ist echt nett. Auf beiden Seiten hat uns ein voll ausgerüsteter Ajax-Kampfanzug geholfen - killt der Trooper einen Xeno gibt es für alle eigenen Truppen der Reihe +2/+2. Hier hätte dann beinahe für mich ein Schocker das "Aus" bedeutet, der alle Ausrüstung einer Truppe verbrennt und in Schaden umwandelt, konnte aber dank Ausfklärungsdrohne (und damit Truppentausch) abgewendet werden. Und was will man sagen - ein glorreicher Sieg der Menschen dank Durchhalten über die gesamte Zeit. Unsere Basis hatte gerade einmal noch 4 Lebenspunkte - der meiste Schaden kam durch Sondereffekte der Gegner. I've been playing lots recently and getting lazy to post game by game content, so on my laziest, brained-out weeks, I shall do a [What's on the Table this Week] summary instead [What's on the Table this Week] 1. Automobile. My friend had initially wanted to table something else but he kindly brought out this game knowing I really like economic games and that it may be difficult for him to find an opportunity to table this. Really enjoyed this! Although the board art and symbols weren't intuitive, this action-selection game with a robust market mechanism involving the building of factories and production & sale of corresponding cars was really right up my alley. 7.5/10 for this! 2. Yellow and Yangtze. Not too difficult area majority game by Reiner Knizia, although area control games involving battling and conflicts ain't my cup of tea. Still fun though, and very thematic game emulating internal faction overthrows and wars between states 😂 3. Pessoa. Easy worker placement and set collection game, with a very cute theme - poetry. E. and I felt this had low replayability for us though; for E. she felt she already figured out the runaway strategy (she did runaway with the VPs she had at the end - twice that of me) while the game didn't give me a good brain workout. 4. Anno 1800. E. and I played another game of my favourite game. No pictures because this game is probably one of those games that we keep going back to whenever we want a "quick brain workout" (we want a brain workout, but not have to exert too much mental energy after a tiring work day learning the rules of a weight >3.0 game) 5. Lisboa. This was a huge monster of a game, glad I got to try this. Was abit of an effort figuring out the many many symbols, but at 2-players and with not much AP, it was an experience. Vital Lacerda games are always about figuring out and getting into the "flow" of said theme and game. 6. Nusfjord. Ending the week with a fairly light Uwe Rosenberg euro! Gra łączy proste zasady oparte na rzutach kośćmi 🎲 z area control i worker placement. W czasie rozgrywki możemy obrać kilka strategii, skupiając się na jak największej kontroli obszarów albo też umiejętnie rozporządzać swoimi robotnikami. Oswajając kolejne Stworzenia i przygotowując Mikstury, będziemy równoważyć losowe wyniki rzutów i stopniowo budować nasz silniczek akcji. Przyznam Wam, że gry ta gra została wydana, nie wzbudziła jakoś specjalnie mojego zainteresowania. Jednak późniejsze coraz to lepsze recenzje i wrażenia z rozgrywek sprawiły, że stwierdzałam, że chcę mieć ją w mojej kolekcji. I co się wtedy okazało… zabrakło jej na rynku. Przeszukałam wiele sklepów internetowych i nic, z drugiej ręki oczywiście ceny były kosmiczne, więc stwierdziłam, że muszę poczekać na dodruk 🙈. Kiedy po kilku miesiącach gra trafiła do moich rąk i w nią zagrałam to się zakochałam, ze wzajemnością, bo mam wygranych 88% rozgrywek 🤣. Cartographers 🗺🥰 👥️1-100 players ⏰️30-45 min. 👶🏻ages 10+ ⚙️Flip and write, simultanious actions "Exploration is really the essence of the human spirit" - Frank Borman In Cartographers by @thunderworksgames you not only get to Explore, you actually get to map your own world, while exploring as a Cartographer. You have a year to do your explorations and each season have it's own scoring conditions. Cartographers is a flip and Write and after flipping a card you will draw it on your map, always looking out for the scoring conditions to get as many points and coins as possible! But in the mix of exploration and ruin cards, an enemy is ready to ambush you ! In Solo games there is an area you have to draw the ambush pattern, and in a game with other players, one of your opponents will draw it on you map. 😈 It can mean disaster because it can change your plans, as well as each space without a pattern, adjacent to the ambush will give you negative points in the end of each season! Artwork and components🎨🖼: At first sight when you look at Cartographers, you mostly focus on the different partterns on each card, but each and every card is decorated with beautiful artwork! Im in love with all the different drawings on the cards and it's clear that there have been put alot of thoughts into the artwork! The components are very good! The cards are in good quality, in the box you find 4 small pencils and 100 doublesided mapsheets. The two sides is different, so you can varies between them . I found the A side to be a bit easier, do to more space, and The B side to be a puzzlier. On my pictures figures the Mini expansions with heroes and skillcards which adds a bit of help to the game, you can use coins to buy one skill each season- and the functions varies. My thoughts 💭 : Im in love with this flip and write game ! I get to puzzle, I get to Explore and I love that I get to think when something I haven't planed happens! I love using colors for the drawing because it makes it more manageable while scoring points! HARMONIES Familienspiel 🎲 Johan Benvenuto 🖼 Maëva da Silva 👤 1-4 Personen ab 10 Jahren 🕋 Libellud 2024 🕐 30+ Minuten ❔ Legespiel Ästhetisch, beruhigend, wohlgeordnet - auf diese 3 Worte trifft man, wenn man nach Harmonie googelt. Und so ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass wir im Legespiel ‚Harmonies‘ genau das empfinden. Wohlgeordnet ist es deswegen, weil wir versuchen mit hölzernen Scheiben Landschaften aus Flüssen, Bergen und Bäumen entstehen zu lassen. Zudem liegen verträumt Felder in der Landschaft und auch Gebäude dürfen wir erschaffen. Alles sollte harmonisch angeordnet sein, denn ähnlich wie Cascadia (SdJ 22) bekommt ihr Punkte für euer Landschafts-Arrangement. Stehen die verschiedenen Typen passend zueinander locken sie zudem noch Tiere an. Je mehr sich bei euch in Form kleiner Sternchen niederlassen, desto mehr ertragreicher sind sie für die Schlusswertung. Egal ob knuffeliger Frosch, Wonneproppen-Biber oder den Wüstenfuchs - alle haben andere Ansprüche an eure Puzzle-Auslage. Sie gut miteinander zu kombinieren, hilft euch dann aber doch zum Sieg. Das ganze ist durchaus beruhigend, denn ich darf alleine und ungestört in meiner persönlichen Auslage fast meditativ vor mich hin puzzeln. Konkurrenzkämpfe mit den anderen gibt es allerdings bei der Frage, welche Scheiben ich aus der Mitte nehmen darf und welche Tierkarten bei mir landen. Das geht aber ohne Ellenbogen - es ist immer genug für alle da. Über einen Wertungsblock rechnet ihr nacheinander ab, wie erfolgreich ihr gewesen seid. Besonders faszinierend finde ich die optische Schönheit des Spiels mit seinem einladenden Farben und den wunderschönen Illustrationen. Die verspielten Tierkarten treffen genau meinen Geschmack und machen ‚Harmonies‘ zu einem Augenschmaus. FU-ZIT 💚 Mechanisch zwischen Cascadia und Azul, optisch auf einer Wellenlinie mit Everdell - das ist ‚Harmonies‘ für mich! Schnelle Entscheidungen von Bedeutung mit tollem Material machen das Familienspiel zu einem Kurzurlaub am Brettspieltisch. Exit: The Game - The Forbidden Castle (2017) 🏰 was tough and meh. We didn’t feel motivated to complete it (although we did). Maybe we’re just too lousy for this! 🤣 The puzzles were really difficult and we used a hint card almost every time.
