Meall Garbh Finally got back to finish off the Lawers range! We were so close to this one back in November when we done Meall Greig but didnโt want to loose day light, so decided to cut back down and missed this at the time. Today the weather was decent for most of the walk, but the weather closed in within 30 seconds of reaching the summit. It was probably the coldest summit to date. I took my hand out my glove to take a picture and instantly my hand was in agony with the cold, so it was a fairly quick turnaround. ๐บ๏ธ Pen-Y-Ghent, Yorkshire Dales. โ ๏ธ ๐ฅพ ^ When the forecast is looking the best itโs been for the last 263638293 days - we have to get something planned! ๐๏ธ Early to bed. Early to rise. Coffee cups filled. Car defrosted. Yorkshire Dales here we come! ๐ After a lovely drive, watching the moon go down and the sun come up, we reached the car park at The Golden Lion in Horton-in-Ribblesdale. The start of the route already busy with the Yorkshire Three Peaks gang, we climbed our way up toward Pen-Y-Gent, entertained by some giddy horses en route. ๐ With the first peak of the day silhouetted beautifully as the sun rose behind it, it was almost a sprint to get those rays on our faces! After the scramble we soon found ourselves at the trig point amongst the other pink cheeked souls. Feeling quite relieved we werenโt partaking in the 24 mile slog that day, we left the Y3P folk and made our way towards Plover Hill. The second and last peak of the day was quite uneventful, but once weโd fought our way there through the bogs, we found a dip in the land to hide from the wind and have a brew! The sun doing its best to counterbalance the chill on the air. ๐จ Once we descended down onto the Pennine Journey route, out of the wind, we walked along the peaceful valley until we joined the country lane - stopping to coo over the wobbly legged lambs every 10 seconds! Too cute! ๐ญ Soon we were heading down the valley following the river until the point of crossing it, where we stopped for lunch and a bit of opportunistic bird spotting! After this it was quite a leisurely stroll along the road where we eventually met a track that took us around the bottom of Pen-Y-Ghent and back down the hill to meet up with the main road. Shoes swapped and bags dropped off, we walked into the village for a pint in the sunshine! I avoided the more obvious fells as I knew they would probably be crowded, I thought I'd leave them for the people to enjoy that aren't lucky enough to always be in the fells. I got parked at around 09:15 and there were only a couple of cars already there. ๐ Parking, free at roadside Grid: NY 1051 2258 (roughly). The route was boggy in areas but definitely not as bad as other fells I've been on lately, and the weather was glorious sunshine with a cold wind on the summits. โฐ๏ธ Clough Head (726m) yesterday gave some great views of Blencathra, skiddaw, and the keswick area fells. I continued up to Great Dodd (857m) with the intent of heading over the summits en route to Helvellyn, the weather over there looked awful so I decided to cut the walk short and head back to the car. โ๏ธ Perfect spot for a brew! (This is not an advert, I'm genuinely impressed by this coffee and wanted to share my recent find with all outdoor coffee lovers). These 'Be Your Own Barista' bags by The Brew Company are absolutely brilliant! My absolute best find lately and take up no space in my backpack. They make 2 brews. All you do is fill the bag with hot water, let it brew, and pour from the spout. The coffee tastes unreal! If you are an outdoorsy person who loves a good brew, then you should definitely try these. Added bonus is that you can keep the bag, clean it, refill it with any coffee, and reuse. โฐ๏ธ Today was not as fun as hoped. Great Shunner Fell (716m) and Little Shunner Fell (653m) and almost every type of weather there could have been. There was heavy rain, glorious sunshine, mist, snow, hail, sunshine again and then more rain. In true Yorkshire style, at times, I was up to my shins in bog on the way back down. One of my highlights of this trip was to reach Iguazu Falls on the Argentine side. What a sight! So majestic, powerful yet peaceful. Water can be very soothing to me, yet you respect it entirely. This also brings us very close to a new country, Paraguay. Oh and loads of people since itโs an unesco site as well. The riding in South America has not been easy. Honestly more of a challenge then I was prepared for mentally or physically, so Iโm proud for the miles/kilometers Iโve done. Amazed regularly how @bikingthebluemarble does this everyday for the last 3 years! It takes fortitude, willingness to push forward and drive that most donโt have.
