Last week, I spent a few days in Orlando, FL attending two conferences, back to back -- RPM and Ignite. RPM (or, Real Practice Management) coaches advisors like me on ways to work on our business when we're usually laser-focused on working in our business. I learned a ton, both from the content and from fellow financial advisors. Ignite is the annual national conference held by my broker/dealer, Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. While there, I attended three full days of update sessions with Cambridge leadership, sat in on many breakout sessions to learn about product and/or process, and visited with many vendors who may (or may not, frankly) have ideas to help me and my clients. I also had the honor of attending two meetings for the two Advisory Councils that I sit on for Cambridge -- New Century Council and the Practice Management Advisory Council. Both were great and super-productive sessions. Have you ever ran around an airport?! 🤣 That's when you know you really love to run... 😅🙃 Pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the running is around Barcelona Airport! First discovered it a few weeks ago, after Hengelo, as our flight was delayed! I set off from the car park and by chance found a beautiful nature reserve and a hidden gem of a beach! 🤩 (although I got a little bit of a shock to realise it was a nudist beach.. 🍑) It's just a *touch* nicer than when me and my friend, ran through Brussels Airport Terminal for our 3 mile jog! We were only young (and clearly stupid!), but we stuffed our luggage under a chair, got changed into our running gear and went for a 3 mile run up and down the terminal! Mistakes were made…my back has been a chronic problem for the last 25 years and this week it has decided to flare up the worst it’s been in years. Played Country Club La Envia Golf, close to Almería today. Views are nice and located on the mountain. But the course itself needs better maintenance. Hole 1,2,8,9,10,11,17 and 18 typical weird layout like most mediocre mountain course. They need this to make sure 9 hole sessions can start and end at the club house. The buggy also has seen better days. Clearly a golf course that tries to run on low-end holiday makers and probably was good somewhere in the past. If you don't care about all this and you don't want to use the big sticks anyway, i guess it is fine. Buggy is a must, contrary ro remarks I read yesterday. Sunday was a unusual fish day in that we fished ‘terminal’- a free-for-all at the mouth of the Kasilof River designed to seriously curtail the the amount of salmon able to return to the river. It’s incredibly inequitable, with the same couple players catching the majority of the fish; most fish camps don’t even participate.
