Several test prints later and I feel I’ve got the best result I’m going to with Elegoo water-washable clear resin. Process is: print, wash, brush clear parts with thin layer of resin, cure for 2 mins, brush again and cure again. Spraying with lacquer or dipping in aqua gloss gives a slight improvement once fully cured, but nothing compared to brush and cure first. Curing IN water leaves a cloudy finish, probably because I’m using water-washable resin. I built this Tamiya Lancaster in 1/48 many years back, posting because I have in mind a new project of the same aircraft in 1/32! Lancaster JN-M (NE181) was named “The Captain’s Fancy” and is quite famous as the first New Zealand aircraft to fly 100 missions. I was fortunate enough to correspond with and meet one pilot who flew her on several occasions. However, a bit of further research suggests that the axe and shovel heads, as well as the jack and possibly the other tools, may have actually been painted black, whereas I've done them in dark steel. I might repaint them! An update on clear 3D printing the AW109 nose - I read online instructions for Anycubic medical clear resin and thought I’d try. The model is washed first and then clear resin is painted back on and the model cured… this seems promising, the nose clarity is restored. I ruined the nose in photo by trying the process again, but like I say promising and you can see the difference. 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limousine with higher top (special protection version) / W 100 Statesmen, Sheikhs, and even the Pope got in line when the Mercedes-Benz 600 ultra-luxury limousine debuted at the 1963 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The 600 represented the state of the art in automotive engineering up to that time. The driver could adjust the shock absorber firmness using a lever on the steering column, a sophisticated dual-circuit power brake system included twin calipers for each front wheel, and the cabin heating and cooling system was electrically regulated. A complex hydraulic system allowed six-way adjustment of the front seats and two-way adjustment of the rear seats. Hydraulics also assisted with the opening and closing of the doors, trunk, and optional sunroof, and raised and lowered the side windows. Powering the 600 to speeds up to 205 km/h was a 250-horsepower 6.3 liter fuel-injected V-8. The most popular 600 rode on a 3200-mm wheelbase and offered seating for six. Mercedes also built four- and six-door stretched Pullmans and convertible Landaulets on the chassis. The first bullet-proof vehicle by Daimler-Benz after the war was built in June 1965; this was a Pullman limousine with an elevated roof. It had many special security features and like some other ordinary Pullman limousines, had not been ordered by a customer but remained part of Daimler-Benz’ motor vehicle fleet to be hired out to the government or to other potential users. Another car of this type was completed in 1980, which also remained at Sindelfingen. Another excellent book by James Holland. Brothers in Arms: One Legendary Tank Regiment's Bloody War from D-Day to VE Day should, in my opinion, have its own mini series (take note @hbo and @bbc ). This book uses letters, historical research, Regimental war dairies and interviews to reconstruct the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry (SRY), a British Army tank reserve (then territorial army) Regiment called up for service in WW2. It follows the regiment from the D-Day landings to VE Day and puts the reader right in the tank with the soldiers. Notably it also uses German accounts to truly illustrate the confusing nature of much of the combat. Mr. Holland does an excellent job painting the larger operational and strategic picture while never losing the average trooper's perspective. If you have ever served in a modern combined arms context then this book will be even more meaningful for you. Many of the struggles the tankers have in 'Marrying-up' with the infantry from different brigades/countries will be familiar to you. The author rightly, in my opinion, rates much of the 15th Scottish Divisions (a Division often flanking the SRY) successes as resulting from their pre-D-day training they conducted to ensure their Infantry and armour units had a well established working relationship with corresponding Standard Operating Procedures down to the Company/Squadron level. The book does get somewhat heavy as you see the astoundingly high casualty rate the Allies took in their advance into Germany and the SRYs turnover of personnel is almost hard to comprehend. Additionally, the audio book version of this is read by none other than @thealmurray which is a delight to listen to. So, if you are a history buff and want something often less covered then I highly suggest this book. Third test print (2 noses on right) of the 1/72 AW109 LUH nose… getting there! Just need to get width and height sorted now. No noticeable shrinkage as prints cure from initial setup sizing. Clear resin yellows as it gets harder, not an entirely unrealistic finish! Nose on fuselage is 2nd print, just roughly masked and sprayed to check details. Finished the build8ng stage of the 1/35 Merkava mk. VI LIC by Academy. Not sure how I feel about this kit. Moulds are awesome. But some of the fittings are off, to fit different options of parts are not in the intructions, the are no instructions at all on where to fit the PE parts which was very frustrating so just did the best I could. 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman limousine with higher top (special protection version) / W 100 Statesmen, Sheikhs, and even the Pope got in line when the Mercedes-Benz 600 ultra-luxury limousine debuted at the 1963 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The 600 represented the state of the art in automotive engineering up to that time. The driver could adjust the shock absorber firmness using a lever on the steering column, a sophisticated dual-circuit power brake system included twin calipers for each front wheel, and the cabin heating and cooling system was electrically regulated. A complex hydraulic system allowed six-way adjustment of the front seats and two-way adjustment of the rear seats. Hydraulics also assisted with the opening and closing of the doors, trunk, and optional sunroof, and raised and lowered the side windows. Powering the 600 to speeds up to 205 km/h was a 250-horsepower 6.3 liter fuel-injected V-8. The most popular 600 rode on a 3200-mm wheelbase and offered seating for six. Mercedes also built four- and six-door stretched Pullmans and convertible Landaulets on the chassis. The first bullet-proof vehicle by Daimler-Benz after the war was built in June 1965; this was a Pullman limousine with an elevated roof. It had many special security features and like some other ordinary Pullman limousines, had not been ordered by a customer but remained part of Daimler-Benz’ motor vehicle fleet to be hired out to the government or to other potential users. Another car of this type was completed in 1980, which also remained at Sindelfingen.
