Bouilloire éternelle. Tout inox, pas de plastique, pas de câble, pas de prise, pas de casse… Elle chauffe super vite l’eau, siffle comme à l’ancienne. On la lave deux fois par an en faisant bouillir un fond de vinaigre blanc dedans et puis c’est tout. Je me demande bien pourquoi on a inventé les autres types qui prennent de la place et cassent si régulièrement… (en vrai je sais, business is business, et quel dommage...). Almost zero plastic bottles; anyone can try it to experience how it is possible. You just need to bring one tumbler. It’s been almost 4 months since I haven’t used plastic bottles, except when places like hotels, hostels, and shops provide water in plastic bottles. I wasn’t aware that I was not using plastic bottles for a month while traveling. We could get water from restaurants or accommodations, and most restaurants provide ice or hot water, especially if you go to coffee shops often. It’s easier. If you travel in hot climates countries, get ice water, and in cold countries, get hot water. Usually, they don’t charge for that. I only experienced one coffee shop where I needed to pay, but even if they charge, it’s fine because we always buy water bottles in convenient shops anyway. So, try it. Plastic producers have known for more than 30 years that recycling is not an economically or technically feasible plastic waste management solution. That has not stopped them from promoting it, according to a new report. Plastic, which is made from oil and gas, is notoriously difficult to recycle. Doing so requires meticulous sorting, since most of the thousands of chemically distinct varieties of plastic cannot be recycled together. That renders an already pricey process even more expensive. Another challenge: the material degrades each time it is reused, meaning it can generally only be reused once or twice. The industry has long known that plastics recycling is not economically or practically viable. An internal 1986 report from the trade association, the Vinyl Institute, noted that “recycling cannot be considered a permanent solid waste solution [to plastics], as it merely prolongs the time until an item is disposed of”. In 1988, the trade group, the Society of the Plastics Industry, rolled out the “chasing arrows” – the widely recognized symbol for recyclable plastic – and began using it on packaging. Experts have long said the symbol is highly misleading, and recently, federal regulators have echoed their concerns. Oh hello! It’s been a longgg time since I have posted here but I’m back! ♻️ 🪱 It’s conference season and I am out on the road attending some great events with even more fantastic people. First stop was the #compost2024 conference which was a huge success. I first attended the US Compost Conference in 2019 as a speaker on the NYC compost project. Fast forward 5 years and oh buddy how things have changed. VERY disappointing all the funding changes to the #compostproject especially given the incredible growth of the industry as a whole. Being back at this conference was a reminder of the passion and enthusiasm and also practicality that composting makes in the community. I always say if you can do ONE thing for the planet - COMPOST! If you can do TWO things…go to the compost conference! Haha jk, cut out single use plastic. Anyhow, this is a friendly hello to say that we are here, we are composting, and we are excited to be part of the community. Do you compost! Put your comments below!
Finally, it's my turn to pick some melons. Some uncoordinated person stood on one of the vines for the Moon and Stars watermelon, so this one may not be completely ripe. If it's not, I'll use it in a jam or jelly.
