Restoration of machine gun bunker N.1021 of the 82nd (Tiraspol) fortified area. Removing the anti-assault grill door, deformed during the explosion of bunker N.920. Our “torment” lasted 11 hours... Honestly, we didn’t believe that we could “evacuate” her. The mulberry tree had grown its roots into the door, and the door itself was half covered in fragments of concrete and earth. We dulled two chains on the saw, dulled two axes, beat up their arms and legs... But we still got this exhibit. In the Tiraspol fortified area, these gratings are today a huge rarity, since 95% of the structures were blown up by the enemy during the retreat in the spring of 1944 and the metal from them was actively sawed off by scrap metal collectors in our days.This door miraculously survived and the wood helped in part. Now, after restoration, the door will take its rightful place in the museumized bunker N.1021. Реставрация пулеметного ДОТа N.1021 82-го (Тираспольского) укреплённого района. Извлечение противоштурмовой двери-решетки, деформированной при взрыве ДОТа N.920. Наши "мучения" длились 11 часов... Честно, не верили, что сможем ее "эвакуировать". Дерево шелковицы вросло корнями в дверь, и сама дверь была на половину в обломках бетона и земле. Затупили две цепи на пиле, затупили два топора, побили руки и ноги... Но все же достали сей экспонат. В Тираспольском укрепрайоне эти решетки на сегодняшний день являются огромной редкостью, так как 95 % сооружений было взорвано противником при отступлении весной 1944 года и металл с них активно спиливался сборщиками металлолома в наши дни. Эта дверь чудом уцелела и от части в этом помогло дерево. Теперь, после реставрации, дверь займет достойное место в музеефицированном ДОТе N.1021. *** BOOK REVIEW*** Stalin‘s War by Sean McMeekin Rating: 10/10 📚⭐️ I’m currently starting my Thesis that has brought me into a reading slump so this will be a shorter review. With ‚Stalins‘s War‘ McMeekin paints a very refreshing and contrarian picture of Stalin‘s part in the lead up, during and in the aftermath of WW2. It always rubbed me the wrong way how good Stalin, who invaded almost as many countries as Hitler did, is portrayed in many books about the war. Furthermore by reassuring the Nazi‘s diplomacy and by delivering critical resources Stalin‘s dictatorship put Hitler in a Situation where he could start a war. The Book highlights the enormous quantities the Red Army received through ‚Lend Lease’ basically free of charge and makes the case that Hitler would have succeeded without them. The Soviet demands grew ever more outrageous culminating even in the delivery of enriched Uranium and other war materials necessary to develop nuclear weapons. McMeekin argues that through spies and sympathizers in the highest circles of the US government, the United States basically put the USSR into a position of strength from which they conquering Eastern Europe starting the Cold War. Soon it will be straightened, restored and installed in the opening of our bunker. The second photo shows the primer of the fastenings of a heavy hermetic door. P.S.: Over 15 years of researching the Tiraspol fortified area, we found only two entire large lattice doors and three small ones. Only three partially preserved large gratings have been found today. Eighty years ago today, the Crimean Tatar Genocide took place, a tragic event marked by severe persecution and ethnic cleansing. On May 18, 1944, by order of the Soviet authorities, thousands of Crimean Tatars were forcibly deported from their homeland. It was loaded onto animal wagons to be taken to Uzbekistan. The deportation process was brutal. While many Crimean Tatars succumbed to hunger and thirst during the difficult journey, some of them lost their lives due to the poor living conditions in the regions where they were settled. The harsh reality of this genocide is also reflected in the staggering death toll: At least 191,044 Crimean Tatars lost their lives as a direct result of the deportation. The Soviet regime aimed to eliminate the Crimean Tatar presence in Crimea, where they had lived for centuries. The Soviets attempted to ensure the dominance of Slavic culture in Crimea by forcibly removing and killing a significant portion of the Tatar population. The Crimean Tatar Genocide stands as a stark reminder of the dangers of state-sanctioned persecution and ethnic cleansing. As we commemorate this somber anniversary, it is of great importance to recognize and remember the great suffering of the Crimean Tatar people. Their resilience and ongoing struggle for recognition and justice highlights the persistence of the human spirit in the face of systematic attempts to erase their cultural identity. Even now, under Russia’s temporary occupation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, the Crimean Tatar people are still facing political repression based on their ethnicity. The Kremlin’s new crimes have become possible only because those responsible for the crimes of the last century have not been brought to justice. This vicious cycle can only be broken by providing #Ukraine with all the necessary support to overcome Russian aggression, de-occupy #Ukrainian territories, and hold the criminals accountable.
