Salt Lake City really has a special place in my heart 🫶 I honestly had no expectations for the comp resultwise with still having to consider my injury while climbing. Climbing went as expected, I got pumped really quickly - what a surprise, when not being able to train endurance 😅💁♀️ But regarding my mental game, it was my best comp so far. I trained so hard during winter to overcome my fear of heights and it feels so good to see the huge progress I made. ☺️ Overall I feel deeply grateful to be here again & had so much fun climbing. However, we did little to dispel our “not a cult” claims by yelling “DEAAAAAATH” at the top of our lungs multiple times before charging around the Capitol grounds 🏇🏇🏇🏇🏇 Today’s workout was split into 3 circuits for the Fellowship of the Ring 🧙🏼♂️🧝🏼♂️, the Two Towers🗼🗼, and the Return of the King 👑. Exercises included Gollum crawls through the mines of Moria, (glute) Bridges of Khazad-dûm, Gimli (shall I get you a) box jumps, Army of the Dead(bugs), and wall walks up the fearsome stairs of Cirith Ungol. As we neared the end of the workout, the ringbearer and his faithful companion grew ever closer to the fires of Mount Doom. However, Frodo’s body and spirit were almost entirely broken by this point in the workout. Enter the “I can’t carry it for you but I can carry you!” burnout! Teams of 2 piggybacked each other across the final slopes of Mount Doom before casting the (peach) ring of power into their mouths and defeating Sauron once and for all. A triumphant crew sailed away to the Grey Havens of Salt Lake Roasting Co. never again to be seen in Middle Earth. Great job SLCP fellowship! Love y’all. Fighting AGAINST? or Fighting FOR? There is a world of difference between fighting AGAINST something and fighting FOR something. Often, in the work I do with clients, it becomes evident that they are fighting against something. Namely, themselves. Fighting against their own body. Fighting against pain. Fighting against discomfort. Fighting against what is, fighting against feeling. This requires a tremendous amount of energy! And diverts our attention from something much more important. Something that is worth fighting FOR. When we use our energy, resources, attention, and activity to fight FOR something, again, namely ourselves. . . the result can truly be surprising. Sometimes it is a matter of semantics or rephrasing. A shift from focusing on the things you don't want, to focusing on the things you do. "I don't want to hurt when I walk" sets you up to brace against pain. Ironically, or perhaps tragically, creating the very pain and discomfort you don't want to feel. "I want to move more freely when I walk" set you up for exploration of how you are walking. It makes room to notice where and when things feel difficult or painful. And allows energy and space to make necessary shifts. I am making a conscious effort to shift how and what I choose to fight for. It means I have to slow down sometimes, and consider how I am talking to my body. How I am treating my self. It isn't difficult. It is just a new practice. And will take some time to develop more fully. *I* am worth fighting for. The experience I have in my body, on a day to day basis, is worth fighting for. This is at the heart of much of the work I do with clients. Learning to navigate where there is tension, bracing, holding tight, and restrictions in the body and being. Softening in the body, quieting in the mind, and feeling. . . these are essential components of client treatment sessions and at home self treatment.
