📟 Paging plant people, what is happening here? I'm not sure who he is I didn't plant him, but leaves are usually solid green. Recently we got some varigation but still all greens. I prune aggressively in late fall every year but the damage to the bark in photo 2 is on new growth, the red plum color clearly starts right after. Plant usually has small, rich pink flowers in clusters of like a dozen, don't think this piece bloomed yet (I leave the flowers until they die for the pollinators use, I'll cut them later this month to complete the prune). . Not looking for gardening advice just curious what's going on with the plum foliage here. . #plantmystery 🤷♀️
🌸 Plants are fascinating! And this one in particular took me by surprise... Just yesterday I noticed this small snapdragon (leeuwenbek) was flowering again. I've been hearing from a lot of people lately that some plants seem to come back to life, just now at the end of October. Because of the cold and dry spring/start of summer and now relatively warm and wet September and October, it does seem a smart thing to adjust survival strategy accordingly. But now the really fascinating part: I bought this plant at the end of spring this year and check out the colour it still had (when I was harvesting some seeds) in July on photo 2! 😳🧐 Curious if anybody knows what's going on here and has seen this in snapdragons too? I know that some plants, like hydrangeas, change the colour of their flowers based on nutrients in the soil. But it seems a bit too fast for that. Also the change is quite sudden in this case. Others change colour after pollination or during growth (borage from pink to blue), but also not the case here. Could it be hybridization with the yellow variety I planted right next to it? Or a gene mutation? I need help! I need help identifying this quite beautiful plant. I bought it about 7-9 months ago as a very small plant at @loweshomeimprovement. It was a Costa Farms plant, and now that it's growing so large and lush and beautiful, I realize that it was definitely misidentified at the time of sale. I have three different plant ID apps, and ALL THREE of them are currently giving me three totally and completely different plant IDs and names for large, gorgeous, and rapidly-growing plant, so I have no idea what it is, and would love to hear what YOU think I have. Hov, der er vidst sket en fejl… Købte som sagt 2 stk barrods Geum Apricot pearl sidste år og i år er første år med blomst. Billede 2 vil jeg helt sikkert sige er den rigtige, men den på billede 1 er absolut en anden. Er der nogen der har et bud på hvilken? Et kig igennem Geum National collection får mig til at mistænke 'Marchant's Apricot Sundae' eller 'Magic Toolbox' men det er svært at bedømme på beskrivelser og et par billeder, desuden kan jeg ikke rigtig finde dem i handel, så det virker ikke så sansynligt. Planten er ihvertfald mindre end Apricot Pearl og faktisk mere på størrelse med Mai Tai og der er noget færre blomster på som også blomstrede nogle dage senere end Apricot Pearl. #geumapricotpearl #geum #plantmystery

So odd - this young Bartlett pear is pushing out flowers on last year's new branches. I've only ever seen pears make flowers on 2-year old wood or older - like most fruit trees, they just make leaf buds on last year's new growth. Has anyone else seen this? The leaf & flower buds that open in spring were made the previous summer. This tree was stressed and rescue-transplanted on a hot summer day - could a stressful transplant process have caused it to turn what would have been leaf buds into flower buds as late as August? Or were these already set as flower buds, in response to June & July's drought? But no other pear trees I've seen have done this.
