Aria is a little bit on the struggle bus right now. This round is definitely starting to hit harder than last round. She is having a lot more nausea and vomiting. Getting her to eat is harder at the moment because she is feeling like garbage and inevitably vomits it back up. She said that she feels like her body is failing. And that breaks my heart. It sucks so much that she has to go through this. Cancer is terrible and the treatment for it is just as vile. She told me she wished I didn't have to work. Me too kid. Me too. Hello Mighty Maverick’s Village! Just your friendly neighborhood cancer mama coming your way! I know a lot of you may remember Mavericks story from the beginning, or maybe you don’t. Liam Maverick is our 3 year old Cancer Fighter. At 18 months old Liam was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Well, Maverick is in his FINAL (God praying) 6 months of this crazy cancer journey before he moves from maintenance to post treatment recovery. We have been very blessed by MANY cancer organizations along the way. We will be using our final 6 months to raise as much awareness for pediatric cancer as our little family can. What better way to do so than to get our entire village involved! Our first fundraiser starts June 1st and runs until the end of June. But donations begin now! This fundraiser is for Cals Angels. They are a local organization that raises money for pediatric cancer research and provides resources for MANY families. They also provide financial assistance as well as grant small wishes! They were the FIRST organization we became a part of on this journey, as every cancer patient at the children’s hospital receives a welcome bag from them. Cal passed away from leukemia (same cancer as Maverick) when he was 13 years old and would be turning 31 this year. So, we are walking 31 miles in June to raise funds and awareness. Little Miss Ivy Jo had her monthly clinic/lab appt yesterday. She did AMAZING!! I am SO proud of her. Especially for not being there for a month, I expected a little crying, but she shed NO tears. She didn't whine, didn't move, sat SO still. I'd like to know she woke up and decided to be so grown! 🥹 .. All her labs looked really good so they increased her Mercaptopurine this time since they increased Methotrexate last time. They only want to do a little at a time and one at a time to find her sweet spot. She is now currently at 50% since her last chemo hold. She received her monthly antibiotic infusion while we waited for labs. She picked out a new game for her switch for her poke prize. A little under 6 months left until end of treatment. This girl is a freaking rock star and so proud of how far she's come with everything she's endured! (Day 326) Nothing says summer like watermelon. Even when I could barely eat from the chemo, I could always get a few bites of watermelon down. And it was easy to swallow with the painful mucositis. But now I'm so glad I get to enjoy it and not just try to survive on it. Took my weekly yoga class. My balance has been good, and my flexibility gets better week by week. I used to do light yoga in my hospital bed to help with the pain that came with being in the bed too long. My muscle strength is still a challenge. I just go into childs pose when I need a break. I'm exhausted after, so I should sleep well tonight. I used to do 3 or 4 classes a week. For now, 1 is all I can take. I recently rekindled my love for rowing, and really cardio in general. Not all cardio, but rowing and boxing have definitely been an enjoyable way to get it done. Nothing will replace resistance and weights, but cardio and I are "getting along" better these days. 😂 Also, enjoy this rare shot of me wearing a lighter color. Day one of Delayed Intensification is here. We've been dreading this phase since the very beginning and have been battling so much fear and anxiety about how it will affect Perry's little body. BUT it's a necessary evil for her to be cured and we will be glad to have the worst days behind us when we're on the other side! This phase is set to last all of June + July if everything goes according to plan. The frequency and potency of the chemo ramps up significantly during this cycle. She'll be back Saturday for more and again Wednesday, etc. There are weeks during this phase she will be at clinic 4 days in a row. Her counts are set to drop entirely at times and the majority of kids wind up admitted during this cycle. We've seen what the Lord can do and how Perry has surprised her doctors with her count recovery, minimal side effects and resilience! Believing He will do it again! Well I wish I wasn’t right, but I could just tell. Hudson was super low on RBC and platelets so we will be getting both blood and platelets and we will have to stay at a hotel tonight and try for chemo tomorrow and possibly more blood and platelets tomorrow. He is so tired and crummy feeling because of how low he is. Two weeks ago his platelets were 434 and today they’re an 8. 😕 Usually the pre-treatment meds make him pretty combative, but today he’s just tired so I’m praying he stays sleeping and lets his body recover and catch up through the many hours of transfusions today. 💙 #heroes4hudson #heroesforhudson #leukemiawarrior #leukemia #childhoodcancer #Cancer

Good morning everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know he’s still feeling good. We are still in the hospital and just trying to pass the time making things with the thermometer probes, (as seen in photo) coloring, reading, and ofcourse BLUEY! We are just waiting for his levels to start recovering from his last chemo cycle before they will release us home for our break before the next cycle. 1 week in: We finished chemo last night and will finish the dreaded eye drops today. We are gearing up for a lumbar puncture tomorrow (maybe). He will be sedated for that. Yesterday his no contact precautions for the stomach bacteria were lifted and we were able to leave the room to visit the different common areas and play areas. His counts are dropping (which is the goal) and he will start taking antibiotics to make sure his body can handle any of the germs he may come in contact with. We are expecting to be in here probably another three weeks before we can go home and rest briefly before another long stay. The family is hanging in there. Josh and I are tired and I’m sure Piper is totally confused. We have all felt an outpouring of love via donations, texts, gifts, and kindness from medical staff members who know us, friends, family, and coworkers. A heartfelt story full of children with Leukemia on Word Blood Cancer Day. It all began with a simple act of generosity. A childhood friend, who I grew up playing softball with, offered ticket to an Angels game with a concert and fireworks to Brave Gowns to gift to a family. Little did I know, that this would lead to a small little stories filled full of heaven winks. I posted that the tickets were available, and the response was overwhelming. So many families expressed interest, each with their own heartfelt reasons. We decided to do first come first serve, thinking the first family would be a go, but that wasn’t the case. The first family was a young girl with cancer, who played softball. Her mom’s feed was filled with pictures of her in her uniform —the perfect choice given that it connected Kelley. It seemed like destiny had a hand in it. They thought it was next week. Curveball #1 The next family, who lived right next to the park, planned to take their oldest son, who isn’t battling cancer himself, but his mom wanted to spend time with him due to his younger brother’s treatment. It was meant to be a special outing for him, a break for them to be together for a couple hours. I thought, how perfect! Brave Gowns was founded in honor of a siblings love. This is everything we stand for. However, they were crushed to not be able to find a sitter on such short notice. Curveball #2 Hope wasn’t lost, though. Barrett, a 15-year-old boy in treatment for Leukemia. Tears filled my eyes that this moment led me here. My brother’s middle name was Barrett and it’s so rare. He went to heaven from Leukemia, so I named my daughter after him. Her name…Ocean Barrett. I knew that this was a heaven wink and meant to be part of this story.
