There are a lot of truths to extreme statements but I think most understand to a point. While positive acknowledgement always makes us feel good about things. Sometimes withholding that encouragement deliberately, can tease out more than what the receiver believes they're capable of. This movie takes it to the absolute extreme and flips it to instead of "close enough" and "good job", it's you're a worthless.... It's those that balance the 2 that are able to foster greatness in others the most. The movie really is an exploration of sacrifice for "greatness" or "perceived greatness" and how letting someone's intimidating stature and harsh words at the pursuit of excellence, can really make or break someone. As Fletcher goes onto state when asked if he ever thought he takes it too far, he says no because, the next [big thing] wouldn't get discouraged. Which is a brutal self cope to the outside world, holds truth as everyone, considered "great" more often than not, has a character similar to this along the way (maybe not to the same extreme). Just visited @presbyirisgardens and it’s a hidden gem! The iris collection is impressive! I was surprised to learn that there are so many different types of this flower and about the American Iris Society @theamericanirissociety with its 100-year history that maintains the legacy! They also have fields that are perfect for relaxing, and the gift shop is adorable, especially the art room. We even found iris honey! "Jazz From The Pacific Northwest" from Shelly Manne & His Men. This is a fabulous Record Store Day release, one that my local did not have. But I finally tracked one down, albeit with a bit of damage to the sleeve. No matter, I'm here for the music, and the music is hot! Shelly Manne was one of the greater jazz drummers of his day, leading with style over volume. This 2 lp set features live recordings separated by eight years. The first album was recorded at the Monterey Jazz Festival on October 4th, 1958. The second comes from the Penthouse Club in Seattle, side C, from September 7th, side D September 15th, 1966. All dates swing hard with joyous West Coast Jazz, and the sound is about as good as live gets.
