Yeah baby! It’s been 19 months since the scar tissue inside my trachea was removed. 450 was my best number a few weeks after surgery. The scar tissue is growing but goodness it’s taking it’s sweet time doing it!!! I’m very lucky! Not sure what’s happening inside that windpipe of mine but I’m grateful. My doctors have changed many of my meds and I wholeheartedly believe that this new medication has helped me tremendously. I take azithromycin (for reducing bacteria) every other day. I started hydroxychloroquine last March and Mounjaro last May. I honestly feel that these two medications have reduced my inflammation so much. I can tell a huge difference in my need to cough and clear my throat. It’s not constantly like it has been since 2009. I’m pumped about all these improvements. I was once the person, who would have told you it was #impossible for me to #learn to #draw, or even #color well. Proud to be a #zebra but grieving the loss of being an ordinary person. 🫶🏼 I saw a post recently from @thespooniementor and they talk about how grief isn’t linear, it doesn’t start then stop and you’re done… you just learn to have a wider tolerance and acceptance for/of it… you learn to give it space and it comes and goes as it sees fit. That was necessary to hear but hard at the same time. We just want to pass through #grief and never see it again. That’s not reality (usually). And that’s yet another thing I have to accept, that I may experience grief off and on for a very long time, in many different stages… and that it’s okay and that it doesn’t mean something is wrong with me. This week I’ve been grieving a lot of things. I’ve been feeling extremely lonely but some people have moved into my life recently (whether for a long time or just for a brief moment) - you know who you are. If you and I have talked in DMs even just briefly, that’s you…. that gave me hope, encouragement, and just enough of a bright spot in the darkness to get me going again. I have an atrial tachycardia so when I have an “episode”, the electrical signal that controls the heartbeat starts from an unusual location in the upper chambers (atria) and rapidly repeats, causing the atria to beat too quickly. I currently do not know the relationship - if any - to hEDS but I can say this…. Connective tissue affects every organ. When I lay on my side, all my organs move and smoosh and lay in odd ways due to my Hypermobility. This is when my heart acts up so I have a feeling it’s bc of my Hypermobility disrupting the circuit. Some of my other biggest problems are MCAS, Atrial Tachycardia, dysautonomia, small fiber neuropathy, fibromyalgia, CCI, spinal issues, and we believe I may have Sjogrens (but so hard to dx). So… for about a week I was sick. The entire family got it and I was the last one. Everyone had a high fevers and varying symptoms. I was the only one without fevers ✨ surprise surprise immunocompromise ✨ I’m on hydroxycloroquine an immunosuppressant. (It can keep you from having fevers.) so I dealt with feeling like complete trash every day per the usual. 👌🏼 Well I clearly start to get better and out of no where, I’m feeling like I’m getting the flu. I’m getting these temps, extremely tender to the touch on my skin, achey, etc. this lasted about 2-3 days and then bam! Gone! My best guess as to what happened was as I was healing, you know how you always go through that phase where it’s way worse before it gets better? I just think my body had had enough and it went into a flare. WHO KNOWS!!! On the mend fully now, one day at a time. Can’t wait to be back to “normal”. (Can’t wait to stop sweating every time I move lol body’s like what are you doing? Sit! Don’t move!) CLC MEMBER FEATURE: Hello Everyone, My name is Alyssa! I am from New Jersey. I am 23 years old. I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus in 2007 at six years old. Since I was six years old, I have watched numerous doctors and nurses care for me. While other six year old’s struggled to learn the alphabet or ride a bike, I found myself incapable of doing simple tasks, such as squeezing toothpaste onto my toothbrush, or even walking up stairs. The physical limitations that have caused me severe pain, even disabled me from attending school. My mother made many sacrifices and frequent hospital visits were not atypical. A handful of doctors tried to diagnose me, and the pain was often blamed on growth or the emotional impact of my parent’s divorce. After being introduced to even more doctors, and trying to entertain myself on car rides to hospitals, blood tests were proposed. The drastic difference in numbers were frightening, and it was certain that my body was not functioning at the same level as my peers in school. The results informed us that my rate of inflammation was 150, when in reality, 0-20 was considered a normal range. Unfortunately, I was misdiagnosed. Later on, my mother’s instincts led me to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where I was given a true diagnosis, which was Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. It took a long time and many failed treatments to recover, along with the help of steroids and immunosuppressants to give my body the strength that it lacked. Lupus is very unpredictable, unknown, and continues to be one of the most underfunded diseases researched. Currently I am taking prednisone, hydroxychloroquine, and methotrexate. I don’t remember a life without pain since I was so young since my diagnosis. All I know is pain. It’s important to have supportive friends and family around you through this difficult thing called life! If you have a dream, chase it, don’t let anything come in your way. In life you will always face obstacles. What matters is if you overcome them and how you overcome them. When you are feeling unmotivated think about the dream. Think about all the obstacles whether they are big or small that you have stepped over this far.
Here is a 17-year-old girl I just treated. She has acute dermatomyositis and rhabdomyolysis. This is a severe situation. She is on high-dose methotrexate, prednisone, Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine), and leucovorin (folinic acid). The picture on the left shows peripheral cyanosis. After reviewing her labs and following an in-depth consultation and examination, I knew we were dealing with multiple issues involving chemistry and the nervous system. The after picture is just a few seconds post C7/T1 chiropractic adjustment. Not only did the circulation improve, but she could also walk better and feel more strength throughout the muscles in her body.
