5-A-DAY LOLLIES 🍭🍓🍌🥝🍉⁠ ⁠ Once you try this ice lolly hack there’s no turning back! ❄️⁠ ⁠ Freeze your way to your 5-a-day with these delicious ice lolly recipes that sneak in the nutrients while packing a real taste punch 🥊⁠ ⁠ Blueberry & Banana Yoghurt lolly 🫐🍌⁠ ---⁠ 50g Blueberries⁠ 50g banana, sliced ⁠ 50g plain yoghurt ⁠ ⁠ Put the blueberries, banana and yoghurt into a jug and blend until smooth using a stick blender. It always makes me feel more organised when I know what we are having for dinner most nights rather than standing in front of the fridge at 4:30pm pondering what to make 🤪 (Spoiler: I also do that sometimes too!) I’ve been loving testing out these new recipes and the grab and go shopping list is such a lifesaver ✍️ The evening meal recipes are balanced for family nutrition and full of veggies, with a range of proteins across the week. My super speedy spinach and four cheese pasta bake 🧀 🍃 🍝 The boys love this, it’s super nutritious and I can whip it up in no time. It served 3 hungry kids over two consecutive dinners! Green beans, broccoli, kale or even a salad are great accompaniments. You know I love to shoehorn those veg in where I can 😉 500g pasta 750g passata sauce 200g frozen sofrito (diced carrot, celery and onion) 5 x blocks of frozen spinach 200g grated mixed cheese (I used Sainbsury’s grated four cheese mix - mozzarella, cheddar, Red Leicester and double Gloucester) 1 tsp of mixed herbs Salt and pepper to taste Big glug of olive oil 1. Boil the pasta for a few minutes less than the instructions state - you want it undercooked so it’s not too soft when it all goes in the oven later. 2. Heat the olive oil in a pan and cook the sofrito and spinach until softened. 3. Add the passata, salt and pepper plus mixed herbs and continue to cook for 3 minutes. 4. Drain pasta and combine thoroughly with sauce then transfer to oven proof dish. 5. Sprinkle cheese on top and bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees C. 6. Often making food fun with cute shapes, fun plates, and novelty utensils can be an easy way to engage kids who are fussy or anxious to try new foods. Even if they don’t actually eat a new food, interacting with the food by helping to cut out the fun shapes or poking a toothpick through it is a great first step to feeling comfortable with a new food. I was so excited to get my goodies from @thecuriouscarrot_ today, including these colourful plates and picks from @pickplates . I know these are going to be on high rotation at home with my kids, but also in my clinics as examples for parents and carers of ways to help kids to have fun with food. #dietitian #paediatricdietitian #foodisfun #feedingkids

Today my big boys played 2+ hours of tablet. After dinner they insisted they needed to go for a walk. Sometimes (often?) a thing isn’t a thing unless you make it a thing. This is my parenting wisdom. You provide, child decides. This is the basic premise of the Division of Responsibility. This feeding style has been shown to reduce picky eating and mealtime stress. As the parent, it is your job to decide what you're offering for the meal plus when/where you're offering it. Once the food is on the table, your job is done. Your child gets to decide what/if they are going to eat and how much. It's that simple! Obviously, this is super simplified, but this basic premise can really help make mealtime less stressful. Instead of focusing on what your child is eating, you can instead focus on mealtime conversations and bonding. Want to make this work for your family, but unsure how? That's what I'm here for! Making lunch for toddlers is a little like swimming in a Mexican lagoon which is filled with crocodiles, you don’t realise how on the edge of danger you are until your in it. This went down well to a degree, it was all eaten eventually, sausage last?? What was he thinking? Sauce was second obvs. Also as an aside I did once swim a lagoon in Mexico that was filled with crocodiles, I had no idea until later that day when I saw a guy feeding them scraps from the back of his restaurant. Ever noticed that when you allow young babies to self-feed, they hold the spoon hostage? How do you get it back without a battle? Judy Delaware, of Feeding Littles, coined this amazing little phrase to go along with her brilliant solution: “The Three Spoon Circus”, and we can’t get enough of it!!! 1️⃣: dip a spoon into a soft solid (or puree), hand to baby. 2️⃣: kick off the second act with another loaded spoon. 3️⃣: now for the magic, introduce a third loaded spoon. Last week we had the opportunity to partner with Feed My Starving Children @fmsc_org for a MobilePack event. CHL Team Members worked alongside other volunteers from the local community, packing nutritious meals to feed undernourished children around the world. Together, with all who volunteered during our shift, we packed a total of 80,568 meals—enough to feed 220 children a single meal each day for a year!
