If there’s a single thing you need to know about my toddler, it’s that he LOVES muffins. He’s a Muffin Monster - as opposed to a Cookie Monster, though he likes those, too. Also, “Muffin Monster” has better alliteration. Last night, my husband baked a few muffins with him as an evening activity. They were still in the oven when he went to bed. He let his anticipation for those muffins simmer overnight. His face lit up this morning when he realized the first item on his daily agenda was eating one of his fresh muffins. The “mmmmms” and “yummms” and “mm-mm-mms” were adorable. My husband and I just stood there watching him and tried not to laugh. He paused long enough to think, and then he offered me the remaining third of his muffin. I was shocked that he would willingly relinquish his prized treat. I said, “wow, thanks” and went to take a little nibble out of his outstretched hand. He immediately regretted his choice to give up any of his muffin and took it back to his own mouth. That made me smile. Even the thought of him torturing himself over sharing and having the desire to share in the first place was adorably endearing. Maybe God gets a chuckle out of us sometimes, too, in the moments we make grand declarations like “Jesus take it all” and then proceed to cling to our little pleasures and follies even when there’s something deep down inside that is nudging us to FULLY surrender. Making a living from trash I made this mosaic a while ago but was undecided on putting it in a frame. I finally decided the young lad on the beach in Pondicherry India I had clicked collecting trash in a sack too big to carry looked good in a dark somber frame. He had cleaned up the beach collecting discarded objects to sell for recycling. This humble use of rubbish to earn a living was different from what we see in the Western world. Friberg has been making work since 1996, beginning with photography, eventually using an old Holga camera to create multi-exposed images that were later shown in an exhibition called Diamond Dust. In 2006, she started to experiment with painting, employing mediums such as enamel and furniture paint until she finally settled on using oils. Her paintings were included in the exhibition she produced titled The Blessed Event, alongside Mark Maggiori, and Norman Reedus. Several of her works in glass were featured in the highly acclaimed group shows, The Re-Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome, alongside Isabelle Albuquerque, Mike Kelly, David La Chapelle, Devin B.
