One of the reasons I’m so passionate about delivering this topic of screens + healthy boundaries for kids is because I’ve seen it firsthand with my own children. I was stuck in a vicious cycle not too long ago. I was going to bed too late (watching Netflix series) and then struggling to wake in the morning after being up and down all night to kids. A banana and the remote felt like time the perfect solution for my 5am early risers. And it worked!!!… until it didn’t. My kids would happily go straight to the lounge, turn the TV on and I would get an extra hours sleep. But it took me to complete burn out to realise I was stuck in a vicious cycle. It wasn’t until I learnt about Circadian Rhythm and how blue lit screens deplete melatonin (sleep hormone) that it all made sense! Now I want to share this life changing information with you. My inbox has flooded with parents struggling to navigate this technological age and creating consistent boundaries with their kids ! And I’ve been amazed at conversations the past week about young kids up all night playing video games. Parenting is challenging at the best of time, yet throw in the excessive accessibility and use of screens, is a whole other curve ball. Screens are here to stay so we can’t get rid of them completely but they do need firm and consistent boundaries in place. A child born today will never know what it was like to not have a screen in their face. It’s just the way the digital world is today.
