Kids Play Village, Locksbottom 🌸 Surely this has to be the prettiest play cafe in Kent. Beautifully designed play area and a pretty cafe to match. We ate and drank here and the food was also great! Play area has a range of role play areas for the little ones aged 0-7 to explore! How good! A significant $21 million upgrade to the Brookvale bus depot will support the transition to electric buses, featuring pioneering charging infrastructure in our own backyard! 🚌🔋 This means that starting later this year, the Brookvale depot will undergo a major transformation with the installation of 16 charging bays, including three plug-in chargers and 13 overhead pantographs.🔌⚡️ This will make it the first electric bus depot in Australia to utilise pantograph charging technology, paving the way for 229 new battery electric buses to start operation next year. ✅ I’m glad the NSW Government shares my vision of a well-invested transition to electric transport. The Zero Emission Buses (ZEB) Program sets out to revolutionise public transport in the Northern Beaches and I welcome this announcement. One of my favourite things about going to Wakehurst Place are the pheasants. They are beautiful birds and have a lot of character. They are very territorial and watching their territorial cry and the fast flapping wings is a treat. As part of National Volunteer Week, I want to spotlight our amazing local volunteer State Emergency Services (NSW SES) heroes. NSW residents are encouraged to wear orange today to highlight and thank our SES volunteers. Our area has copped huge weather events over the years and so many of us have relied on the SES for support and assistance in often dangerous situations. It was also great to join the Minister for Emergency Services The Hon. Jihad Dib MP for a Thank You morning tea with some of our brave and committed SES Leaders last week. I also had the honour of thanking retiring NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York APM for her commitment and service to our state. During her time at the SES, Carlene has led the agency through some of the state's worst natural disasters, including record-breaking floods and the COVID-19 pandemic, and providing support during the Black Summer bushfires. THIS WEEKEND! The Northern Beaches Council has teamed up with Save the Children, Whirl Recycling, Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre and Revolve Recycling for a special recycling event. You can bring your unwanted clothing, homewares, electronics, metal items, cardboard, and bikes to the drop off location in order to give these items a second life, or get them recycled properly. 🚨🚨BREAKING NEWS!🚨🚨 I wholeheartedly welcome today’s announcement that the ‘Staying Home Leaving Violence’ program is being rolled out state-wide as part of the NSW Government’s gendered violence crisis support package. ✅ This means the onus is on perpetrators of abuse to leave the home, not the victim survivors and children. The program also includes safety and security upgrades, including duress alarms and cameras, to keep victim-survivors safe.📸🚨 Along with @women_children_first and with the support of @zalisteggall @drsophie4mackellar and @kyleatink , this is precisely what I’ve been calling for. I commend the government for this meaningful action. The program is proven to be effective and will profoundly benefit the Northern Beaches, which has never been included in the program. ‼️‼️As of July 1st, coercive control will be a crime. Good! But if you were asked to describe exactly what coercive control is, could you confidently answer? I stood with advocates, NSW Government Ministers and fellow cross-bench MPs to announce an important public education campaign about the new laws to protect victim-survivors of coercive control. Coercive control is multifaceted. Efficient and widespread education is needed to make sure this vital law works. But there is more to do. One life lost is too many. And right now it is one life every 4 days!!!! Horrific. 🔴We need actions such as funding programs we know work like Staying Home Leaving Violence. 🔴We need additional capacity and new refuges. 🔴We need the various programs that experts (women) in the field are saying work and need funding.
