Morning rituals are probably my favorite part of the day. Ritual has a way of grounding & connecting the spirit to the resource of nature and our spiritual court (ancestors, guides, helping spirits and the like). I often begin my day with an offering of libations to instill & maintain the flow of my life and to invoke the energies I’m needing. I also make offerings to my ancestors and enjoy a cup of coffee & ‘conversation’ while divining on the day. Divination is such a big part of my spiritual practice and I work to keep the gift sharpened by using it daily and in broadened and specific instances. I enjoy many forms of divination; from tarot, scrying, to the throwing of bones. But my all time fave, for personal readings especially, is geomancy. Geomancy is a North African divination system that maps the flow of energy through the Elemental manifestation of active & passive aspects. I find it gives a more specified lens and accurate display of past, present & predicative reads. I’ve been working with this system for a few years now and this year I’m thinking about adding this divination to my public service offerings 🤔 I’ll keep you posted on that 😉 What are some of your favorite daily rituals? My ancestors have toiled, labored — legit slaved, in the hopes of a coming freedom, not necessarily for themselves but for their heirs to come. I have an oath & pact to be the absolute best version of myself and in turn — the manifestation of their wildest dreams. I choose to live & live well as veneration of my lineage. This is not at all to say that work is not necessary— but rather that overworking does little but leave your body and spirit looking at you like, “wtf you do that for!?” Truth of the matter is, there is no trophy to be had for exhaustion. My ancestors know this all too well. Don’t let this modern world (which is horribly out of sync with natural & spiritual rhythm) lull you into this new age mode of slavery also known as “always on” or “grind culture”. I choose rest as a radical act of revolution that my ancestors were denied. It is for and because of them I live, I breathe, I work, and I REST. Connection & communion with nature is synonymous with connection & communion with your spirit and the spirit of that place. Often we have the tendency to separate ourselves from the environments that surround us, forgetting the intimate union between both. The spirit of place (nature spirits) also create a fabric of sorts which allow you to tap into deeper knowings, memories and intuition. A very sacred place for me in particular are the swamp lands of the low country in South Carolina. This is the home-place of my paternal great grandparents and home to some of my most beloved ancestral spirits. Each time I visit, their presence is felt so deeply and the activations are almost effortless. If you’re able to, research the places of your known ancestors and visit if possible. Offerings made and time spent there with the spirits of that land will supercharge your ancestral work like no other. The next time you’re captivated by a natural place — take a moment, tap in and engage the practice of spiritual communion.
