In recognition of May as Menstrual Awareness Month, GPF India successfully conducted the second phase of its Period Awareness Drive in the Karawal Nagar slum area with the aim to empower participants with knowledge about sustainable menstruation. We shattered taboos and ensured participants gained a better understanding of menstrual health. During this phase, a comprehensive presentation highlighted the importance of menstrual health in their personal lives. Happy to have witnessed the #7thgenderequalitysummit 2024, organised by the @ungcindia (UN Global Compact Network India).🌏 The summit aimed at incorporating the SDG 5, that is, Gender Equality, into each one of the '17 Sustainable Development Goals', adopted by all the members of the United Nations. 🇺🇳 Got to listen to the esteemed speakers from a wide range of professional backgrounds. 🙌 The speakers emphasized on increasing the role of women in the corporate sector, technology, innovation and more such areas. And most importantly, lighting up the 'Entrepreneurial spirits' especially in women.👛 They made us observe that the fundamental concept of Gender Equality and Women Empowerment must be first taught to women itself. And spreading awareness about their rights and responsibilities among them first. 👩🎓 . . . . Many of my 'so-called Alpha male friends' have an opinion that it reflects my weakness, to be a feminist or to even oppose the 'Patriarchal Indian Society'. I think, bringing change to this kind of a mindset, is the first step towards GENDER EQUALITY, which is far to be achieved. Posted @withregram • @thebetterindia As the football sped towards her, Bhabani Munda — a 32-year-old tribal woman from Kalchini in Jalpaiguri district — lifted her foot and gave it a powerful kick. Thrilled, she watched it soar away, reminiscing how she fell in love with the sport at the age of seven. Today, football is no longer just a sport for Bhabani; it has become a way of breaking social barriers and gender stereotypes, and of providing opportunities for women and tribal girls. As a child, Bhabani recalls she wasn’t allowed to go out to play football or wear shorts, while her brother could play freely. He would tell her that if she tried playing, she might break her leg and then “no one would marry her”. But nothing could stop Bhabani. She played regardless — no jersey, no football boots, no nutrition, no support, and no money, but plenty of passion! Eventually, she played for the district football team, putting her heart and soul into the game. She woke at 3 am, did all her domestic chores, tended to her small snack shop, and then went door-to-door trying to convince parents to let their daughters play. She was clear about what she wanted — “more women on the field who’d make football their own and who would eventually be able to call the shots in their lives”. She formed her own team consisting of all tribal girls, called Doars XI, who later played in major tournaments and even brought home trophies. Nothing distracted Bhabani from her goal, not even offers to coach teams overseas. Her priority was very clear — to keep her team of women together and to see they were healthy and fit — even if that meant she had to work to generate extra funds. A recipient of the Bangla Ratna award, Bhabani is now a community leader and works for the oppressed in her community. Her vision is clear — empowering women through football, fostering health and fitness, and enabling them to take control of their lives. Her message to Indian women resonates with empowerment — “Go after your dreams and put power into your kick to turn them into reality.” In partnership with @unwomenindia #WhenWomenLead
I attended and participated at United Nations #csw68 ( Commission for the status of women). It was a great experience to join as an Indian Development Foundation delegate and ambassador of Project Dignity. It was amazing to see how local and global peace builders have united in one place, trying to solve problems related to gender equality and women’s empowerment. Sharing of ideas, helping hands to increase knowledge, raising awareness, and building contacts provide a chance to collaborate and take collective effort on similar issues. This experience has provided valuable insights and inspiration for my ongoing work in this field. He was so proud and excited for me; reminding me to make sure to speak up for women from our culture and community too. 🫶🏾 In a culture where when you reach a certain age, the pressure to marry builds, with an expectation that you’ll go from your father’s house to your husband’s house; my dad never applied any such pressure, never vocalising any such expectation. 🫶🏾 In a culture where it didn’t surprise me when my mum told me that dad had been advised not to educate his girls ‘so much’, because ‘they’ll just get married anyway and it will be harder to marry them off the more educated they are’; my dad never restricted our growth. Every degree, qualification, achievement and endeavour, big or small, was celebrated and we were encouraged to strive for excellence in our chosen fields. 🫶🏾 And in a culture where having 3 daughters and no sons is seen as some kind of misfortune by some, my dad always brushed off these audacious expressions of pity, calling out this mentality for what it is - absolute nonsense. 🙏🏽So, it is men that need to stand alongside women for gender equality, and speak up against patriarchal values and harmful norms, be it at home or in the workplace. 🤞🏽Whilst there have been significant improvements amongst South Asian cultures in regards to gender inequalities, there is still so much work to be done 🙏🏽 Share, comment, support and donate 🌍🙏🏽 #unitednations #unwomen #unwomenindia #csw68 #investinwomen #changeforwomen

Destination 5- Nongtraw Village, East Khasi Hill, Meghalaya Nongtraw- this village has a rich biodiversity, full of edible treasures. We climbed down almost 4000 steps to reach to the bottom of the village. Amidst the nature and blessed topography Nongtraw leave it's imprints in terms of tourist attractions and vivid culture. Destination 4-Khongthong Village (Whistling Village of India) East Khasi Hill, Meghalaya Our next destination was Khongthong Village, which is also known as Whistling Village of India. Kongthong is a popular tourist destination known for the panoramic picturesque views and the unique culture of inhabitants who use the whistled language "Jingrwai Iawbei" and build the remarkable living root bridges. Each native of the village has a unique name, which is a whistling lullaby, and villagers call each other by whistling the lullaby. In this Village we did several activities such as Mural painting with the theme of Awareness for social issues, movie screening and discussion, gender games etc. It was an amazing experience to work with villagers where diversity in its peak.
