This photo makes my heart happy! ❤️ Can you guess the sign? Whilst they were celebrating this cute cubs 1st birthday at the zoo this week , it’s brilliant to hear how much her whole family were embracing the signing with her…🥳🙌 “There was lots of signing going on yesterday from the family mainly, but of course duck and bird was very regular from Lillie. But I thought I’d share with you photo evidence that all our family and friends are very supportive of Lillies signing” 😆 Animal signs AND words were used by her (12 months) whist there - more proof that signing escalates speech 💝 #littlebearbabysigning #marwellzoo #family #friends #communication #animals #baby #toddler #birthday #1stbirthday #zoo #babysigning #babysign #signlanguage #speechandlanguage #babyclass #toddleractivities #hampshire #bsl #babybabble #toddlertalk #dayout #familyfunuk #familyfun #chandlersford #southampton #portsmouth #bitterne #hedgeend #whiteley

🎉 Every word your child says is a step in their unique speech development journey! As they grow, from age 3 through 5, children refine their speech patterns, moving from simple sound changes to more complex speech interactions. 🗣️🌈 👶 By ages 3 and 4, children start using sentences that are clearer and more complex. This progression is part of the phonological process—a normal part of language development where children naturally simplify adult speech sounds as they learn to talk. 🧠💬 👉 If you’re observing this magical growth or if something doesn’t feel right, remember, we’re here to help! Our team is dedicated to nurturing each child’s potential through tailored support. 💪❤️ 📞 DM us or reach out today to explore how our expert speech therapists can assist your child’s journey towards clear and confident communication. #MiracleMinds #SpeechDevelopment #ToddlerTalk #ChildSpeech #ParentingWin #EarlyDevelopment #SpeakUp #CommunicationIsKey

My sweet little curious seeker (who is in need of another bangs trim). 💇🏼‍♀️ (I have to cut her hair while she’s asleep, so it can be tricky, and takes the perfect sleep situation to happen). 🫣 Yes, she has continued to add words and phrases pretty much EVERY DAY! It’s so cute hearing her voice! ❤️ Also, how is it only Thursday? It’s been a long week! Illness and damaging storms have consumed our days this week. Fortunately neither Avery or Riley have been sick this week! 🙌🏼 If you saw our story earlier this week, you may have seen that the girls’ wooden playset was destroyed in one round of storms. But, communities north of us were hit much worse. We took donations to some of the hardest hit areas, and saw extensive damage. Unfortunately, we’ve continued to have rain every day and it’s expected to continue for, at least, the next week. All that to say, it’s been a long week! But, we’re looking forward to the weekend. Hopefully those of us sick today will be well by tomorrow and the storms will be nice to us here.🙏🏼 Hope you are all staying safe and well! #oureveravery . . #toddlertalk #learningnewwords #bonemarrowtransplant #childhoodcancer #infantileleukemia #babiesgetcancertoo #leukemiawarrior #leukemiasucks #leukemiafighter #frogyoucancer #posttransplantlife #cancersurvivor #cancercrushers #cancerawareness #thrivingnotsurviving #survivorstories #survivorjourney #cancerwarrior #cancerfree #beatcancerlikeaboss #cancersurvivors

✨There are a few reasons why asking " Do you/ Can you?" might not be the most effective approach. ✨Using positive, directive statements like "You can put on your socks" offers several advantages: 🤍It conveys confidence in your child's abilities, fostering a sense of self-efficacy. 🤍It leaves no room for negotiation, but doesn't sound harsh or demanding. 🤍The emphasis is on their capability, encouraging them to complete the task. ✨Here are some tips for incorporating "You can!" statements effectively: ✅Model the Behavior: Show your child what you mean by doing it yourself. Say, "You can put on your socks like this," while demonstrating. ✅Choice Questions with Limits: Instead of "Do you want to put these toys back?" offer choices like, "Let’s put these toys back." This allows for agency within boundaries. ✅Non-Negotiables Without Questions: For essential tasks like brushing teeth or wearing a coat, use a firm but gentle "You can brush your teeth now" instead of asking for permission. ✨By replacing "Can you?" with positive, directive statements, you can create a more collaborative and empowering environment. You'll see a shift in your child's confidence and a smoother flow in your daily routines. ✨Remember, communication is a two-way street. #speechandlanguage #autism #pediatric #slp #pediatricslp #pediatrictherapy #earlyintervention #languagelearning #slpcommunity #languagemilestones #babycommunication #talkwithbaby #babydevelopment #speechtherapy #languageskills #pediatrichealth #babytalk #babywords #slplife #pediatriccare #speechpathology #babylanguage #toddlertalk #childdevelopment #parentingtips #languagetherapy #communicationskills #therapylife #speechdevelopment

My child is leaving off the final sounds of words! Should I be worried? 🧐 As children develop, it is typical for them to make patterns of speech sound errors, known as phonological processes 🗣️ Phonology refers to how sounds in language are organized. When a child has difficulty with phonology, they often make errors that affect a group of sounds. Final consonant deletion is a phonological pattern where the last sound of words isn’t produced (e.g., “do” for dog). It is a typical developmental sound error pattern until around age 3, when it should correct itself. WHAT SHOULD I DO? If you’re worried about your child’s speech development, it’s never too early to contact a speech therapists for a consultation to see if an evaluation or therapy might be recommended! 🌟 HOW CAN I HELP? Bring your child’s attention to your mouth, model, and emphasize correct speech sounds. In this case, emphasize the final consonant sound in words. For example, if your child says “I see a do” you can model back “Yes, that is a doG!” 💬🐶 If this information was helpful - like, save, share and follow @laurahustedslp for more speech & language tips! G1's greatest love at the moment is her books. We have been reading a Peppa Pig at the Zoo book from the Library and G1 signed Monkey and said "Ooh Ooh Ahh Ahh!" and pointed to the picture. So it seemed like a very good idea to go to the Zoo and see REAL monkeys. G1 was intrigued by the Chimps and we sat quietly for 20 minutes or more whilst she watched them and munched her rice cakes. Then we set off round the Zoo to find the other animals in the book. It was very successful and it was particularly sweet when she met a Penguin for the first time and she signed "What's that?" and "Duck?" Which is a pretty good guess for a 1 year old 🥰👏🏼👏🏼 All round we spent a very good 3 hours meeting the animals and a quick stop in the shop to buy ANOTHER book, summed up a lovely morning. #toddler #toddlertalk #babysign #booksforbabies #booksfortoddlers #animals #zoo #toddleractivities #toddlerdaysout #learningoutdoors #earlyyearslearning #nanny #nannylifeisthebestlife #nannydiaries

If your toddler isn’t imitating words yet, try adding exclamatory and symbolic sounds into play and throughout your day! 💬🌟 Symbolic and exclamatory sounds are my go-to’s when practicing verbal imitation with toddlers! They’re easy to incorporate into play, fun, and easier to imitate. Here are some examples that I use during my sessions and tell parents to try at home! Use them often and make sure to pause frequently to give your child the chance to try and imitate you! Was this information helpful? ✨While every child develops at their own pace, some red flags might indicate a speech and language delay in children. Here's what to watch for: 🤍 Limited Babbling: By 12 months, most children are babbling with a variety of sounds. If your child's babbling seems limited or absent, it could be a cause for concern. 🤍 Lack of Response to Name: Does your child rarely turn or respond when you call their name? This could be a sign of a delay in receptive language skills. 🤍 Difficulty with Gestures: Many children use gestures like pointing or waving to communicate before they start speaking. Limited use of gestures could be a red flag. 🤍 Delayed Use of First Words: If your child hasn't spoken their first word by 15 months or hasn't spoken several words by 18 months, it's important to seek professional guidance. 🤍 Echolalia: While some repetition is normal in language development, children with ASD might excessively repeat words or phrases they hear (echolalia). ✨If you have any concerns about your child's speech and language development, don't hesitate to talk to your pediatrician or a qualified SLP (Speech-Language Pathologist). ✨Early intervention is important, as it can significantly improve a child's communication skills and overall development. #speechandlanguage #autism #pediatric #slp #pediatricslp #pediatrictherapy #earlyintervention #languagelearning #slpcommunity #languagemilestones #babycommunication #talkwithbaby #babydevelopment #speechtherapy #languageskills #pediatrichealth #babytalk #babywords #slplife #pediatriccare #speechpathology #babylanguage #toddlertalk #childdevelopment #parentingtips #languagetherapy #communicationskills #therapylife #speechdevelopment

Imagine wearing wellies for the first time and wondering where your feet have gone? G1 took it all in her stride today ☺️☺️ Once back in the car she examined them intently and pointed to the rain cloud pattern, "That's rain!" I explained and signed 'rain'. G1 thought for a moment and then signed "Look" and pointed out of the Window where it was indeed raining." Yes rain! Well done!" What are some functional first words to practice with your baby? Here are some of my favorites, and words that I usually address early on in speech therapy. You might be thinking, why not names of items? Encouraging functional words first allows for more flexible communication - your baby can request “more” at mealtimes, play time, swinging on a swing.. anything! They can ask for “help” with many activities, and tell you they are “all done”. Nouns, or names of items, will come in time, but functional words really open the door for communication with your baby! #firstwords #babytalk #toddlers #toddlertalk #latetalker #earlytalker #earlyintervention #speechtherapy #momtipsandtricks

Life is so busy and flat out all the time that sometimes I feel like I don’t get much one on one time with my kiddies. So on the weekend it was me and Bindi heading off to the nail salon. 💅 The smile on Bindis face when we got there was so big. She loved all the different colours and she picked her favourite shade of pink. I couldn’t believe how still she sat for the lady. She watched her closely as she painted each nail telling her which finger it was (mummy finger, daddy finger etc from a song at daycare) For the rest of the day she showed everyone her pretty pink nails 🩷 How often do you get to spend one on one time with your children? . . . . . . #lifewithatoddler #toddlerfood #toddlertalk #growingup #indigenoustoddler #aboriginalgirl #sydneymums #mumssupportingmums #mumlife #positivevibes #aussiemums #nails #mummydaughtertime #makingmemories #ourdayout

Y’all! When did she grow up? 🥹 She’s really starting to look so big. It’s an incredible sight to see considering how hard she fought to get here. Not to mention, in addition to looking older, she’s also picking up words left and right! Each day it’s a new word based on the playlist of the day. 🎶 👀 the second slide is my list of the words we heard her repeat this week 👀 Numbers and letters have always been her favorites and we can see that in her word choices as well. She’s so cute with her songs too. When a song she really likes comes on, she runs over to grab my hands. Then, based on the motions of the song, I have to sing and perform them for her. With numbers, colors, and shapes, she grabs my hand and “tosses” it up while I say the word. With numbers, I have to finger count each one—and she often mimics the count on her own hands.✋🏼 As soon as she hears the first few beats of a song, (a) she runs to me, (b) covers her ears and runs away, or (c) simply sits and listens to the song (or continues to play while listening). Music therapy was always her favorite and you can tell that it’s still a big part of her healing journey. We just love watching her take it all in and continue to grow! 🪴 #oureveravery . . #toddlertalk #learningnewwords #bonemarrowtransplant #childhoodcancer #infantileleukemia #babiesgetcancertoo #leukemiawarrior #leukemiasucks #leukemiafighter #frogyoucancer #posttransplantlife #cancersurvivor #cancercrushers #cancerawareness #thrivingnotsurviving #survivorstories #survivorjourney #cancerwarrior #cancerfree #beatcancerlikeaboss #cancersurvivors

Encouraging natural speech development in our kids is an art. We often find ourselves prompting them to "say" things, hoping they'll respond. Sometimes it clicks, but more often than not, it falls on deaf ears. Let's face it, no one likes being told what to do or say, especially not kids. So instead of repeating the same futile command, like "Amelia, say hello," let's try something different. Rather than ordering them around, let's model the behavior we want to see. Speak it aloud with enthusiasm, like, "Oh, hi there! Look who's here! Hi!" By engaging in natural conversation, we can better support our children's speech development. Educators provided materials using water, colour and sprinkles to create this experience and help teach the children the concept of gravity within a cyclone. As the water in the jar is swirled around, it is forced to the outer side of the jar/bottle and because of that, the air inside is left to rotate in the middle, creating the shape of a cyclone/whirlpool. The spiraling shape is formed because of the gravity acting against the water. #learningthroughplay #lifelonglearning #toddlertalk #floorbooks #intentionalteaching

Recast: Guiding Little Ones' Language Recasting is a powerful technique for teaching language to toddlers. By gently correcting their verbal and signed mistakes, parents can encourage learning and develop their child's communication skills. Here's some examples: Verbal Recasting - Child: "Want juice!" - Parent: "You want some juice." Key Word Sign Recasting - Child: (signs "drink" "want") - Parent: "You want a drink now." - Child: (signs "eat" "want" "apple") - Parent: "You want to eat an apple." Notice how Key Word Sign (KWS) follows spoken language structure, whereas Auslan has its own unique grammar and syntax. By using recasting, parents can support their child's language development and build a strong foundation for communication. Try recasting with your little ones and watch them grow into confident communicators! #Recasting #LanguageDevelopment #ToddlerTalk #ParentingTips #CommunicationSkills #KeyWordSign #LanguageLearning #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ParentChildInteraction #LanguageTeaching #ChildDevelopment #CommunicationMatters #TalkingToToddlers #LanguageAndLiteracy #EarlyLearning #kindyuplift

✨Every parent wants their child to thrive as a communicator! Here are some tips from a pediatric SLP to support your child's speech and language development at home, from babyhood to preschool: ➡️Talk, Talk, Talk! ✨Narrate your day-to-day activities. Describe what you're doing and the sensations your little one might be experiencing. ✨Sing songs, read colorful and interactive books together, and point out objects and pictures while labeling them. ✨Ask open-ended questions that go beyond "yes" or "no" answers. Encourage them to tell stories about their experiences or create narratives together. ➡️Listen Attentively: ✨Put away distractions and make eye contact when your child is trying to communicate with you. ✨Give them your full attention, even if their attempts at communication are limited. ✨Acknowledge their efforts, both verbal and non-verbal, with a smile, a nod, or a word of encouragement. ➡️Expand on Their Communication: ✨When your child uses a single word, try to build a sentence around it. For example, if they say "ball," you could respond with "Yes, that's a red ball. Can you roll it to me?" ✨Ask open-ended questions that encourage them to elaborate. Instead of "Do you want juice?" try "What would you like to drink with your snack?" ➡️Make it Fun! ✨Play games like "I Spy" or "Simon Says" to target vocabulary and listening skills. ✨Sing songs with actions and fingerplays to encourage participation and social interaction. ✨Choose age-appropriate toys and activities that promote communication development, like building blocks, pretend play sets, and picture books with simple storylines. 🤍Remember, you are your child's first and most important communication teacher! 🤍What are some fun and creative ways you incorporate communication development into your daily routine with your child? I lied yesterday! “Crock O’Clock” by @huwlewisjones and Ben Sanders has taken over as my new favorite book of the week! Sung to the tune of “12 Days of Christmas,” it has counting, alliteration, plenty of silliness, and BEAUTIFUL illustrations representing our diverse world. For real, get yourself a copy for the summer! 🐊 #EarlyLanguageDevelopment #LanguageDevelopment #AACSLP #AugmentativeCommunication #AugmentativeAndAlternativeCommunication #EmergentLiteracy #ComprehensiveLiteracyForAll #LiteracyForAll #ComplexCommunicationNeeds #SpeechTherapy #Neurodivergent #NonSpeaking #LateTalker #MinimallyVerbal #ChildLedPlay #ChildLedSpeech #GestaltLanguageProcessing #GestaltLanguage #ToddlerTalk #EarlyIntervention
