CW: Discussion of DV and manipulation. Following this weeks post on gaslighting, we're here to give you a bit more information🚀 Gaslighting is a very real, and very prevalent form of psychological abuse. Although data on gaslighting is extremely hard to collect, a survey conducted by the National Domestic Violence Hotline found that 74% of female victims of DV reported experiencing gaslighting by their partners. Gaslighting is just one way abusers use to gain control. Hello dearest friends, can you believe we're already at the end of November? It's been a beautiful year with our co-heart and with our extended CFM family whether that's here, our alumni, our donors and funders, or our larger activist ecosystem. We shared some powerful highlights from a recent workshop as part of our #CFMWorkshopHighlighs series yesterday that spoke about HEAL (Healthy Economic Alternatives that Last), a recent California budget initiative, that offers cities who end their contracts with ICE and/or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding to retain & retrain their workforce into sustainable, non-carceral alternatives that help the economy & community flourish and HEAL. We view this as part of larger abolitionist work which seeks to end all logics of carcerality: from prisons, to apartheid, to detention centers, military-industrialization and note, as IM4HI so lovingly puts it: 'All Are Sacred Across Bars & Borders.' So today, for our #16DaysOfActivism at CFM series, we wanted to highlight the incredible Abolitionist FAQ Toolkit & Zine, "What About The Rapists" from Mariame Kaba & Eva Nagao, housed at @interruptcrim We leave you with their powerful question: 'When something can't be fixed, what can we build instead?'
