This view never gets old. I frequent it a lot. For almost 52 years, I have grown and watched this skyline grow with me. It’s in my DNA. Toronto has got to have one of the most photographed cityscapes in the world. The mix between residential, commercial and recreational buildings puts it at the forefront. I sometimes hear people complaining that it lacks architectural ingenuity. My simple reply is it houses the Fairmont Royal York, in 1929 when it opened, it was the tallest building in the British Empire. From February 6, 1973 until its completion on June 26, 1976, builders were busy building the worlds tallest freestanding structure which the CN Tower held the title for almost 3 decades. When the Skydome, now the Rogers Centre, opened on June 3, 1989, it showcased the worlds first retractable roof. Then you have the residential sky bridge that showcases a condo in the sky as it connects to separate buildings 33 storeys in the air with breathtaking views of downtown. A real life example during my nature walk this morning: "Persistence pays off!!!" This is applicable to many circumstances in life. I was expecting a smooth walk WEST along the Taylor Creek Recreational Trail from just a bit north of Victoria Park Subway Station to the Coxwell Ravine Park near O'Connor & Coxwell, but I didn't know I would run into trail blockages/diversions due to construction. As a matter of fact, I came across 2 construction zones. First one was just a bit east of Dawes Road; I erroneously said in that video that I was going to head east, but got my directions mixed up with a slippage of tongue as what I meant to say was WEST. Second construction zone I came across was a bit east of O'Connor Drive stretch of the trail. I was going to give up, but decided to search around for a diversion, found it, and successfully completed my walk west to Coxwell Ravine Park. Amazing weather in terms of temperature!! Temperature got up to as high as 19 C (66 F) shortly before noon time with strong southwesterly winds. We did have some very scattered light rain showers around 11 am, but they were short-lived. The more widespread rain showers came in shortly after 12 noon, and dropped our temperature down a bit to 17 C (63 F). Depending on how long these rain showers will last & if we get any more sunshine, it remains to be seen if the temperature here in Toronto might reach the forecasted high of 22 C (72 F) & Crack the 20-degree threshold for the very first time this month and year. Highest temperature so far this year has been 18.8 C. Spotted a slug, a snail, a black phase gray squirrel & a frog during my walk along the Taylor Creek Recreational Trail. I'm glad I didn't give up & continued walking when I came across the second construction zone east of O'Connor Drive.
