This view never gets old. I frequent it a lot. For almost 52 years, I have grown and watched this skyline grow with me. It’s in my DNA. Toronto has got to have one of the most photographed cityscapes in the world. The mix between residential, commercial and recreational buildings puts it at the forefront. I sometimes hear people complaining that it lacks architectural ingenuity. My simple reply is it houses the Fairmont Royal York, in 1929 when it opened, it was the tallest building in the British Empire. From February 6, 1973 until its completion on June 26, 1976, builders were busy building the worlds tallest freestanding structure which the CN Tower held the title for almost 3 decades. When the Skydome, now the Rogers Centre, opened on June 3, 1989, it showcased the worlds first retractable roof. Then you have the residential sky bridge that showcases a condo in the sky as it connects to separate buildings 33 storeys in the air with breathtaking views of downtown.
