I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus from social media… But popping back in to catch up on what some other artists are up to and introduce myself to some encouraging and inspiring creatives and homemakers. As I’m doing this I’m pondering 🤔…..I am referred to as a collage artist, but that’s just a small percentage of who I am… I consider myself a domestic artist as well, I love to create food from my garden, bread from wheat, Heat from wood, clothing from natural fiber and using found papers from discarded magazines and old books. New life from old things. Presently I’m wearing an old cashmere sweater that was my fathers, a skirt that I mended with embroidery after tearing it on a trailer hitch.. I’m not a influencer by social media standards, but I pray that I influence others with my character, my kindness, and all that is in me that comes from God. 今日ご紹介するのはクレメント・ムアの詩にターシャ・テューダーが挿し絵を付けたThe Night Before Christmasの初版です。 クレメント・ムアのこの詩はご存じの方も多いでしょうし、この詩をもとにした絵本は他にもたくさん出版されてるので、内容は割愛するとして、サンタクロース🎅のイメージが世に広まったのは、この詩によるとも言われています。 一般的な赤いコスチュームのサンタクロースは前に書いた通り、1931年のコカ・コーラの広告からですが、白いお髭に赤ら顔で丸々と太った体のサンタクロースがトナカイと一緒にプレゼントを配りに来る、というのはムアの詩によるものです。 ムアはこの詩を1823年に病気がちだった娘のために書いたそうですからコカ・コーラより約100年前には今のサンタクロースのイメージが世に出ていたわけですね。 さて、ターシャが手掛けたこちらの絵本は1980年の初版で、白黒とカラーのページが交互でした。 2000年に出された改訂版ではターシャが全面的に絵を描き直して全てカラーになるのですが、それはまた今度紹介しますね。 初版本では楕円形のフレームの中に物語が描かれていますが、フレームを彩る飾りやその外の背景の空模様もとても美しいです。 サンタクロースを出迎えるのは動物好きなターシャらしく、犬や猫、ワシ、フクロウ、ウサギ、ネズミとさまざまな動物が登場します。 ターシャの描く暖かみのある絵とともに、ぜひクリスマスの前の晩に読んでほしい本です。 #絵本のある暮らし #絵本が好き #絵本好きな人と繋がりたい #ヴィンテージ絵本 #クリスマスのまえのばん #TheNightBeforeChristmas #クレメントムア #ターシャテューダー #TashTudor #Maintentbooks #購入品

Carrying Out A Victorian Wardrobe And Lifestyle As with any newfound dream (such as dressing and living in the Victorian age), as I've stated formerly, there is a significant difference between a notion and the tangible execution. As you may know, if you've followed me on Instagram and read ye olde blog, it's impossible to live precisely as a person in the era. Just as Tasha Tudor cherrypicked residing in the 1830s, I have followed in her footsteps. For instance, I implement the period as much as possible. Gradually, after each process of adding another Victorian way to my life, I live that aspect, adding another way, then another and continuing this process as if I'm adding a component for the beautiful life of which results with each added feature. Easing into period living creates solace, and because I'm doing it slowly as I find my way, I've found it becomes like second nature instead of attempting everything at once, which would result in overwhelm. My first giant leap was to put away my modern clothing, which I accomplished two years ago when I moved to our little one-horse town, and I haven't glanced back. I love Scarlette Rose cottage so much, as it's truly the most authentic to Victorian life when I'm abiding there. We live in such a beautiful time where choosing to be as unconventional as we desire is admired by many, and that makes me truly happy. We should embrace our dreams and always follow our hearts. My mother-in-law gave me a book about Tasha Tudor when I was in my early 20’s and I was captivated by the lifestyle and Tasha Tudor embraced; an appreciation of the natural world, living in harmony with the seasons and her stubborn determination to insert herself into the period of history that she loved the most. I’m not sure why she was so drawn to the 18th and early 19th centuries but I imagine that it had something to do with the intimacy between people and their surroundings. When you’re tending your own animals or gardens, you are inseparably connected to the weather and the outside world. When you’re making your own clothes or toys, you are a acutely aware of the texture and weight of the materials you’re using. While I’m glad that I don’t have to raise my own food or make my own clothes, I love to take the time to make things with my own hands.
