Talk Talk - The Colour Of Spring (1986) Another 1980's gem... This is a wonderful transitional album by the British band Talk Talk. Originally they were a new wave / synth pop band, but with this album Talk Talk starts to explore a more artpop style which they would extend further with their next albums. In my personal opinion this is the best album by Talk Talk. It combines the best of early and later Talk Talk. Great songs like "Life's what you make it", "Living in another world" and "Give It Up". The beautiful and alternative "Time It's Time", and more serene gems like "April 5th" and "Chameleon Day". And of course the great characterful voice of Mark Hollis, who sadly passed away too soon. We lost Talk Talk frontman Mark Hollis four years ago today. "Life's What You Make It", the lead single from the band’s 1986 LP, The Colour of Spring, tended to go through my mind at least once a day even before his passing, since it made such an impression on me upon its release, back when I was in middle school. This vinyl reissue gets frequent rotation under my roof, along with my reissues of the previous two Talk Talk albums, because they all hit my 1980s kid synth-pop sweet spot. My thoughts: Every track on this album is great. Fantastic album start to finish. I wouldn’t normally want a band to get rid of synthesizers almost completely, but it’s different with Talk Talk. “Living In The Another World” is my favorite song on the album and it’s so amazing that I can’t even express my feelings towards this song. The cover is great, once again, all Talk Talk albums covers are great. I continue to debate if this album is my favorite Talk Talk album. There's so much to love about this album. Talk Talk are one of my favourite bands ever and I love the artwork of James Marsh. I often hear people refer to the butterflies on the cover, but I think most of them look like moths. Either way, add in nature to the mix and this makes for one amazing all-round album ❤️
👁🗨 Focus today is on James Marsh, the English visual artist, illustrator and designer who turns 75 this year. His works appeared on and in magazines, books, advertisements, posters, greeting cards and he also designed many company logos. And he also works in music, of course, otherwise he wouldn’t be on this account. Tomorrow is April 5th. Usually and come what may more often than not I make a pilgrimage of sorts down to one of my favourite places. Silverdale. Here I will spend a little time listening to what has come to be probably the most important album I have ever heard. I could wax in wonder to The Colour Of Spring and how I grew to love its simplistic complexites. Or how it taught me that there can be a meeting of pop and classical sensibilities without sounding forced or pretentious. Of how patience with certain compositions can bring rewards. This was a lesson in sound. This was something that I didn't even know I was looking for. From the opening of a simple drum pattern through to the rapturous joyous almost spiritual slow fade of the last song I was taken on a journey that I'm still finding heartbreakingly beautiful. Talk Talk 'The colour of Spring'. I've had this on vinyl since it first came out and it's been my favourite album by them. I recently sent a signed copy of Laughing Stock to @ladydaylight as a sort of early christmas prezzie and she asked me if there was anything that she could send me as a thank you and I mentioned that I didn't have this on cd and it turned up in the post on Christmas eve. How cool was that 👍😊 The only low point for me is the out of tune singing by the Children from the school of Miss Speake on the first track Happiness is easy' 😕 which spoils a really good track imo 🙄 isn't that what Autotune was invented for 🤔😁 Now the weird thing is that I've literally just put up 'Cut the cake' by the Average White Band on here and then noticed that both Alan Gorrie and Robbie Mcintosh from AWB are featured on this album.
