Got my new Legacy @livetinted Hue stick this weekend and had to try it. I am one of those exceptions to the rule brown girls who doesn’t ever wear eyeliner on the bottom because my eyes are on the small side and hello dark circles. But I love the way it looks on top and smudged a bit in the outer corners. Since it’s still a hue stick I ended up using it on my eyes, brows and mixed with a bit of rise on my lips. Finished up with more Rise on my lids and cheeks with a bit of unity balm to glossen things up. There is so much fun, amazing, and beautiful things happening with @LittleBrownBaux And I wanted to take this moment and thank you all for supporting me on this journey especially since it’s just begun. Pursuing your passion is such a double edged sword, on one hand you’re relentless until you achieve it and on the other side, at some point you understand the sweat, blood, and tears involved into making it happen. Am I the only one who feels this way? I honestly hope not. Haha Anyways, let’s debrief some of these points. 1️⃣: Pursuing your passion is not a starting point. You don’t just wake up one day and know what your passion is and decide to run for it head strong. You take classes, explore new hobbies, or even join different clubs before you stumble across it. So pay attention to your life, surround yourself with people who inspire you to grow, and be mindful of the opportunities that present themselves. 2️⃣: Pursuing your passion just isn’t enough. There’s so many factors involved like success and financial solvency when this pursuit begins. No matter how passionate you feel about something, no one and nothing will be changed by it unless YOU take action and DO something. 3️⃣: Passion doesn’t dictate form. The thing is that passion is definitely something that is ever evolving and that aspect of it shouldn’t be stifled. Your passion can be something creative which can shift from jewelry making to painting to baking. Instead of limiting yourself to traditional means, open yourself to the possibilities of where you can potentially go. 4️⃣: Passion is not an end. Passion is a feeling and 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦. Once again, allow your passion to evolve with you as you grow as a person. I hope this helps you all understand a little bit more about passion. I think it’s something we all like to talk about but when you really put your money where your mouth is that’s when things change. I mean things really change, the people change, the dialogue you have changed, and you fundamentally change as a person. Considering it is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month this July, someone I really want you all to know more about is Sahaj Kohli, the founder of @BrownGirlTherapy. Sahaj’s IG holds space for South Asian women and first-generation individuals like herself. On MyWellbeing.com Sahaj expresses how “in some cultures and communities, taking care of oneself might be seen as selfish and too individualist; it may not be encouraged or prioritized.” However she understands the struggle with mental health and says, “I understand firsthand the struggle of feeling displaced and floating between two words... everyone needs different levels of care and help to navigate their struggles.” Her 5 important reasons to consider therapy are: 1️⃣: Therapy can help first generation individuals navigate their multiple cultures and their expectations/norms. 2️⃣: Therapy can help provide a confidential, productive space to vent and work through problems. 3️⃣: Therapy can help manage generational unspoken trauma. 4️⃣: Therapy can help in learning effective communication styles and skills. 5️⃣: It’s the first step in normalizing seeking help and breaking the stigma in our communities. I feel like all of us have so much we can learn from Sajah’s perspective and insight. Hi, I’m Khushboo, I’m 28, and I deal with my own mental health struggles every day. Recently I found out that July is BIPOC mental health awareness and generally when I post pictures of myself that’s exactly what I talk about. My own mental health struggles include depression, anxiety, and PTSD. All three of which I got recently diagnosed with this year after seeing a therapist for almost 8-9 months. I’m the kind of person who truly wears their heart on their sleeves but I want you know that behind every smile is still all those things I was diagnosed with. A big lesson I learned in 2020 (which I call the year of flawless vision, IYKYK) is how damn important it is to cut off toxic people. That includes “friends,” family members, co workers and even significant others. These are the same people who gaslight you and don’t believe you, and that’s ok. Because personally, I don’t seek their validation. They can literally see their way out because the door is wide open. I believe in surrounding yourself with those who inspire, motivate, and empower you to keep pushing through even the hardest times unconditionally. I’ve been so blessed that I use my vulnerability to give me strength and have those absolutely incredible conversations that move me. No matter who hurts me, who betrays me, and who goes out of their way to pull me down, I’ll never stop being vulnerable because on the other side of vulnerability is this incredible, colorful life that I want to live with out FEAR. It’s so hard these days to know what’s REALLY going on in someone’s life. Underneath smiles are anxiety and depression. Sometimes it’s this fear of being caught as a “fraud.” You see, anxiety and depression have so many layers that we mistaken the layers that appear to be happy as the only real ones and think that the other person isn’t truly suffering but they are. The truth about Little Brown Baux.... is that I thought about this in August 2019 and it took heart break and hitting the lowest point of my life to start LBB 1 month ago. I decided that instead of directing all my charged energy into my sadness, that I would use it to uplift, empower, and support 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 South Asian womxn, something that was so missing from my own life. Little Brown Baux is a community that is so near and dear to my heart because I want it to fulfill all the holes I felt were missing in my life and my relationships and I never, 𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 want that to be missing from someone else’s life and relationships.
