Giving the new version of A Deadly Dinner Party 🍽️ my final edit ✍️ . I thought this would be done a lot sooner but life really got in the way with the unexpected death of my dog Polly and then her sister Daisy the cat eight months later along with health issues and other personal things, the world just doesn’t stop even when you want it to. I really enjoyed writing this story and I want it to be at the quality of There’s Something in the Woods 🌲 🐺 although it is a very different story. 🔪 A Deadly Dinner Party is a dark comedy murder mystery centred on ten strangers finding themselves brought together to host and attend a progressive dinner party with a cash prize for the finalist. The problem? 2023 was actually a decent year for me. I feel like I normally have more to complain about in terms of things that went wrong throughout the year, but even though there are always hardships, and I'm not trying to diminish the significance of those times, overall I feel like this year was better than the last few. I felt more balanced this year. Life is chaos and I was undeniably overwhelmed at times, but the lows and highs balanced each other out better. I think a huge part of that was finally having my husband work locally, which meant he was home every night and not away for 4 or 5 nights a week. It helped my mental health a LOT to have the support and improved family dynamic. Of course it doesn't hurt the year's reflection when I can finally say my dream became a reality. I finally became a published author! I have been waiting SO LONG to say that. 🥰 I won't list everything I accomplished this year, but highlights include: 🥂 Writing & publishing my prequel novella, A BALLAD OF HATE AND HOPE 🍾 Finally, FINALLY finishing my debut novel A SPARK FROM EMBERS, getting it ready for publication, and sending it out to ARC readers. Every year I set writing intentions for the new year, mainly because it's fun to see how writing journeys diverge from your expectations. Although I'm hoping this year they won't diverge TOO much. For 2024, I intend to: 💫 Release my debut novel, A SPARK FROM EMBERS 🔥 Write and publish my next novella, to be released between book 1 and 2 💫 Write book 2 in my Tears of Flame series and get it ready for publication! A year ago today, I was bumming around Paris, heading into the final week of a month long, self-directed writing sojourn that was inspiring and also challenging at times. Happy Sunday!! • Who has any big goals they are hoping to crush this week? This girl does!! • I am feeling energized by some recent clarity I had with my projects. And I’m still trying to learn how best to balance multiple projects at once. I’ve gotten a lot of great advice. Such as alternating days with focus on a specific project or assigning a day exclusive to one project. I’ve decided to set specific goal for each of the current projects I’m taking on. And I’m trying to make them realistically attainable. My goals are: 🖤 Finish my second draft of my short story 🖤 Edit one chapter of my fantasy novel rewrite to send to my CP 🖤 write 5k for my new WIP project Never, Never! 🖤 get one N2N blog post online! • So here is me typing these goals and putting it into the universe in hopes that my writing community keeps me accountable!! ✨New Plan for 1st Four Books✨ Just got back home after a short trip, but it doesn’t mean I can’t update everyone on my new plan for TVC. Yes, yet another new plan. What is this new plan? For starters, Cries of the Dead was the first book that introduced the main plot of The Verdian Chronicles. A hefty book with four parts detailing different parts of Verdia. After I sent the third draft to beta readers, I read it over another time. And as I finished reading it, I started getting beta feedback and one thing that stuck out to me the most, was how I could ether condense the book or split it up. And because of that, I made a plan to split Cries of the Dead into four separate books. All with first POV chapters to get an even better look at the MCs of each, as well as a few third POV. And while I’ll have to rewrite most of it, I have the base with a few tweaks here and there. Cries of the Dead becomes Four Cries Apart, and broken down even further into the first four books: (1) I’m Still Here (2) Leave Me Dead (3) Take My Lies (4) Believe My Truth So far, I’m halfway done with book 1 and hoping to move on to book 2 in the next month or so. (Excited for that one because Donohue is one of the MCs and getting into his head through first POV will be so much fun! Also, will probably make him feel creepier than the previous draft.) Because I’ve already done a lot of work, it’s mostly rewrites and edits from here. Other than that, I’ll have more updates throughout the week, both writing and new news to share with you all.
