It's almost Spring, I could definitely feel it in the warm sun rays over the snow today 🏔️🍃 and I'm finally stepping out of my personal "wintering" (veeery slowly, but still). In a previous post I wrote about a book I'm reading and finding very precious. It's about the importance of understanding the need of retreat and rest during challenging transitioning times and I know I'm definitely living a major one. I thought I could share it with you 🌟 So here is an extract for you: << Wntering is a season in the cold. It is a fallow period in life when you’re cut off from the world, feeling rejected, sidelined, blocked from progress, or cast into the role of an outsider. Perhaps it results from an illness or a life event such as a bereavement or the birth of a child; perhaps it comes from a humiliation or failure. Perhaps you’re in a period of transition and have temporarily fallen between two worlds. Some wintering creep upon us more slowly, accompanying the protracted death of a relationship, the gradual ratcheting up of caring responsibilities as our parents age, the drip-drip-drip of lost confidence. Some are appallingly sudden, like discovering one day that your skills are considered obsolete, the company you worked for has gone bankrupt, or your partner is in love with someone new. An early start, taking a walk in the beautiful ancient woodland of Sherwood Forest. It is a blessing to be near such a peaceful and tranquil place. On a quest for a small, remote wood, which had thought would be relatively ‘straightforward’! Um, more like a twisty turny adventure with many ‘is this it?’ moments. I set out to find Hermit’s Wood on the land of the local Franciscan Friary. The first wood I found which I thought was Hermit’s Wood because it aligned with it’s placement on the map, was not it! I still ventured in to check but found wire fences and no paths so did not want to overstay my welcome. (There were lots of Roe tracks and a small Hermit hut for a Monk so the latter led me to wonder if this small wild, tangled copse could be Hermit’s Wood!). I ventured back out to wild meadow, anxious of ticks and of being ‘a bit confused’, not ‘lost’ as such. I walked towards a small Fae mound and from there could see a narrow strip of wood close to the Friary, yay there it was! The map showed it being further from the buildings. Two Magpies flew past me towards the wood, thank you allies. Once I found my way in and saw the boardwalk I was reassured but also aware that the copse I had just been in had felt more Hermit like. I was exhausted and had a long steep hill to climb to get back to my car (over a mile away), so did not stay long.
