๐ The Greening ๐ When all that has survived Winter, when all that is alive now shows signs of that life. Form is no longer bare but busy taking renewed shape, and the greening path of Spring beckons us to follow as all around and within us makes way for life. ๐ผ Whilst at this time we can still know coldness, the fires of Sol are calling forth new life and we are reminded by the powerful forces of renewal that we ourselves share in the infinite rhythms of shedding and renewing, we are reminded that each day is new. ๐ผ At this time of Spring, when we have only just paused at the Equinox threshold, some of us may yet brew in Her Cauldron, our wounds still keening, our Winter bones still rattling and we remember that (re)birth is both joyful and painful. For someone who likes to be in control and keep that control in all areas of my life, surrendering to the Goddess is probably going to be one of the biggest tests there is for me. Surrendering into the unknown, with everything from my health to my life path... It's bloody scary, and I hate it, but therein lies the lesson, I guess. ๐ค Imbolc Blessings ๐ค At this powerful portal we find ourselves in a season of great potency as we journey the Wheel, resting as we are between the deepest tides of Winter and the greening of Spring. This time of Quickening when we experience the first awakenings of our earth can feel fragile and unknowable, yet consider the force required to break free from the seed casing, to send down strong roots whilst pushing upwards through the dark to break the frozen soil. Tender shoots have to be strong, they have to want life, the covenant they make is to participate in life, to say yes to it, to be unleashed by it. Here in the making of this covenant so much potency is liberated and life is welcomed. And it is in this first surge of life, in the first breath taken, in this urge towards being, that we discover the Maiden Goddess, She who is Brighid, Bridie, She who is the beginning of all things, the enormous energy of becoming form, the fearlessness, trust and aliveness of Returning. After the long dormancy of Winter, life becomes a possibility once more which can be felt in our internal landscapes as a surge of lightheartedness or a small pulse of hope. The Maiden, who at Imbolc ushers us fully across the threshold into life, urges us to say yes to the entirety of our lives, to cultivate that which in us is free of fear, unencumbered and unselfconscious. ๐ฟ WILD PLACES ๐ฟ When we are connected to the soil and material of the earth, so we are granted access to old stories found in the deep layers of our bones and wombs. When we breath life into the fires that forged our ancient covenants, that shaped our journey with the earth, then we dance the elements into being from within our wild bodies. When we know the intricate rhythms of each season as they play across our internal landscape, then we possess the knowledge of how the earth unfolds from within our bodyscape and we live our wildness, we surrender to our birthright. When we tell our stories to the land upon which we live, to the land that weaves our dreams, so our stories are claimed by the soil we walk; they turn over deep with each new season, spiralling with the story of oak and feather, returning to us as fragments that we gather and re-tell. When the land calls and we rush outside to meet Her, when we weave with our fingers the threads of new stories, so we are told of realms that stream together and the luminous presence of our First Mothers. ๐ค Even though light begins a journey of return in January, Winter still holds us in the grip of Her darkness and we, like all of nature, are folded into the mantle of Her cold, left to wonder from which place the Great Awakening of Spring will emerge, from under which cold stone the light will brave this dark. At this time we meet the inner landscape of our Lone Traveller, for we journey alone in Winter seeking out the vast tracts of our deep inner recesses, no distractions existing, other than those created by conditioning, from the sacred task of simply being our unhindered selves. ๐ค The landscape of January is one that, stripped bare of growth, now reveals all hidden pathways, where, for a brief time nothing lies concealed and we ask ourselves if it is possible to turn our faces into the north wind and tread these frozen pathways, there to find the places within us that hold no illusions and where only the crack call of crows sounds across our inner trackways. ๐ค Crow Medicine is the deep reverential and transformational work of sitting with and picking over all that emerges from within our bodyscape, the process that occurs when we enable all that lies concealed to surge to the surface for tender and radical acceptance. Crow guides us as we pick clean the bones of our wounding, our conditioning and worn out paradigms. ๐ค๐ This is the Season of all that Falls. When we ourselves come to know what it means to fall. A time when we are invited by the Season to grow concerned with that which exists inwardly and the process of stripping back that brings us here, the process of unlayering and baring that leads us to the Bones Of Winter. And as we shed our deep layers of conditioning and inheritance, as we make way for the songs of our wounding, as we are led by Shadow into the shape and form of our inner landscape, taking deep journeys into longing and pain, into our raw heart, so we know what it is to settle for a time in the Cauldron of Transformation, where everything is rinsed, where all we thought we knew of ourselves is challenged and where we brew for the Season as we are pared back to the bone, growing closer to our essentials. ๐ค๐ Thank you to the beautiful group of souls who gathered the other evening to journey together the Veil of Samhain at the Temple of the Crone Goddess Circle, an evening of deep journeys, dark ceremony and sacred sound. An evening of bones, ghosts and shadows. Together we journeyed to Avalon, there to discover the dark gifts of Crone Nolava held within Her Cave. Leaving behind all we were carrying, the names we go by and the stories we tell ourselves at the entrance to Her Cave, we journeyed in stripped back to the essentials, pared to the bone, there to find Her Cauldron and all that is brewing there for us, wondering what layers we are shedding, what in the shadows we are tending. In ritual, we gazed into Nolavaโs Dark Mirror, initiating the journey of gazing deeply and without limit into our inner depths, offering reverence for all that is seen and known there and honouring the deep journeys of Samhain. We each lit our own Bone Fire in honour of all that will be scraped back to the bone this season and reverence for the shape we have formed in this incarnation from deep ancestry. We carried our Bone Flames outside into the night to walk towards our own darkness, towards our own internal night along the Dark Road of Samhain, open to what emerges from there, honouring the journey of the Lone Winter Traveller. What if we restory the dark as a potent place, the place of the Cauldron and the Cave. A place of brilliant darkness, the radiant night. From where mystery is born, from where all is transformed. Painful to dwell there, yes, as we come to know all we have consigned to this our deepest dark, abandoned on our lowest ledge, all we sought to lose and thought lost, but as we mingle with the velvet, as we hear the rustle of Her old skirts, make out the glow of Her Cauldron, what if the brew being stirred there contains our oldest Wisdom? One thing I am trying to do on my priestess adventures is to RECEIVE. โโโโโโโโ โโโโโโโโ I went on a pilgrimage to Avebury and Glastonbury a few weeks ago (you can read the full article on my blog) and this is what came up for me. โโโโโโโโ โโโโโโโโ I am opening to this idea that these sacred points in the land don't require me to DO anything to receive the energy or healing or connection - I just need to show up. โโโโโโโโ โโโโโโโโ This is a big shift for me as I often get the opportunity to go on these amazing adventures only to feel like I should be doing more when I am there - connecting more, having a more spiritual experience, making the most of this chance to be somewhere specialโฆโโโโโโโโ โโโโโโโโ โฆwhich usually takes me totally out of the moment, and makes me unable to get into presence to receive whatever there is to receive there. โโโโโโโโ โโโโโโโโ I often feel like as someone who is a public priestess I somehow have to prove my priestessiness to myself at these places and my ego trips me up with it's scarcity wounding that I'm not enough, and that if I was a real priestess I would be having *insert mind blowing trippy experience here* rather than just generally enjoying myself. โโโโโโโโ โโโโโโโโ I know it's not real, and that it's all ego nonsense, and on this trip in particular I felt myself really watching and witnessing that part of myself that was trapped in scarcity and lack. A reminder that we can bloom right on the edge. There were lots of these beautiful pink flowers all over the headland, showing that we bloom in the safety of solid and safe ground. But we can also get right to the edge, be a moment from tumbling over and be just as beautiful, or even more beautiful for our boldness. I'm trying to live more in the open, more on the edge. I've been "out of the broom closet" for a while now but I still struggle with explaining about my craft and about Goddess, I feel held back by not having the words to accurately express what Goddess means to me and how She's changed my life. Looking for guidance for the week ahead... I've been feeling a bit restless and directionless in the last few weeks, I'm currently putting it down to the uncertainty around my job but also I'm now facing the reality of having chosen not to carry on, at this moment in time, with Spiral Two of the Priestess of Avalon training. The first Spiral was deeply transformative and I've learned so much but I know I need time to process and understand what I've learned, I also need the chance to dive more deeply into Goddess in my own home landscape, look for Her in the trees, the flowers, the river creatures and creatures of the land and see Her for myself. I think this evening I'm going to spend sometime at my altar, dressed in its autumnal best and ask Goddess for some guidance and some clarity.
