We had a fantastic week last week. Thank you @shiningcliff for hosting us!! The team worked on making steps, dead hedges, railing, a turning circle and a bug hotel!! We had some team members spending the night in the hostel where they made dinner, pudding AND lunch for the next day. A small hike to the Betty Kenny's Tree..... This 2000+ year old Yew tree inspired the nursery rhyme 'Rock-a-bye Baby'. In the late 1700s a woman called Betty Kenny resided under this trees branches with her family.... Local folklore tells that they decided to live beside this tree because one of there children were buried under it. Also the nursery rhyme became a thing because Betty use to rock her children asleep in the branches of this once magnificent Yew tree..... Off the back of a fantastic #temperanceclub day over at the @whitepeakdistillery this was the bottle all the club members got given as part of the founding members package. The day celebrated 5 years of Whitepeak distillery and as such we were all treated to an Ex-wine STR single cask release from 2018, No.72 to be precise, making it one of, if not the oldest whisky to leave the distillery doors to date 😍 Having tried it at the distillery I can say it’s a fantastic whisky and thankfully have a 100ml sample bottle to tuck into alongside this, which is likely to be cracked open tonight 😄🥃 I can honestly say, one of the best investments I’ve ever made, for a multitude of reasons, the whisky being one obviously, but also the friends I’ve met and made down at the distillery within the whisky community. On the eve of the new @whitepeakdistillery #doubleoak #port release I’m really pleased to be getting to try a sample of what’s to come 🥃 It’s everything I’ve come to expect from the distillery, with its own unique twist to very much differ it from the previous releases. I’m far from the best when it comes to tasting notes but for what it’s worth here’s my thoughts 😄 “Whitepeak double oak 52.2% Nose: After eight mints, juicy prunes and leather. Palate: More dark chocolate, menthol, medoul dates, caramel and oak char. Big shout out to the folks @whitepeakdistillery for a sample of the up coming ‘small batch’ release. Just tucking into this now and for a few notes off the bat I’m finding it has a lovely woody ‘cedar’ and nutty nose with hints of menthol and lime zest coming through. And on the palate mostly toffee and rich dark chocolate with a touch of dark fruit and a spicy menthol finish. And I might note, a lovely colour to it. That’s just a fairly quick review of purely my current thoughts.
