Brothers in the Amazonica Highland 🌬🐛 There we were in Tarapoto, Peru..my amigo & young Maestro Paolo Ruiz and I had just picked up our shacapas from an elder medicine women a few pueblos away that made them specially for us..it was a hot..muggy day when Paolo took me to a sacred part of the river for a cleanse before we ceremonied and after we worked with Rosa Sisa, a sacred flower When we arrived he bathed me in tobacco smoke which he blew over my stomach my heart and my head..he led me into the water before he sat on an old stone peaking out over her surface..go down to the bottom of the river he said in Spanish..grab the largest stone you can find and stay there till this Icaro is finished..So I walked into the river and took the deepest breathe I could muster The waters cold clutch tore through my bones as I hurried my way to the bottom The first stone I held wasn't heavy enough to anchor me from the powerful currents..so with my right hand I grasped another..I had found my stone..I could finally relax my body Right in that moment I heard his song over me..the most hauntingly beautiful collaboration of Shacapa, Icaro and Amazon..the Amazon..she is alive..she lifted me up with her powerful current and for a moment I opened my eyes because it felt like I was flying..like we were free Somehow I was able to hold my breathe..somehow I was able to see fish and stones tumbling past me..I turned my head to the sky and there he was with his shacapa singing his sacred song..in his element..on the land of his ancestors I will never forget that moment I can never forget this sacred song he taught me I knew he would be my brother for life and I would do everything I could to support his journey We are the next generation of indigenous voices reclaiming our divine birthright to the lands we are native to We are the next generation..reborn from mud made of ash, the rubble of our ruins, and the bones of our ancestors In my eyes there should never be competition in our communities yet I see it so often..we should be lifting each other up so we can collectively step into our power We should be encouraging those choosing the medicine so much more 🍵

Made using Pariana leaves from the Amazon jungle of Peru 🐆 🌿 The Chakapa is a shamanic tool used in ceremonies and rituals to clean, clear and extract unwanted energies from a person or a place. It aids in the healing of both physical and mental issues by transforming the energy it comes in contact with. It is very common in many different tribes of South America, where the shaman uses the Chakapa to “cleanse” the patient or the space where the ceremony is taking place. The shaman or curandero shakes the Chakapa around the patient or brushes off certain parts of the body with it. They use different movements, rhythms and blowing techniques and the sound of the Chakapa also has a healing effect in ceremonies. 🌿 Chakapa is the Quechua (language spoken in different parts of South America) word for shaker or rattle. It is made by bundling and tying together the leaves of a healing plant named Pariana which grows in the Amazon jungle. 🌿 The Chakapas in my shop are made with authentic Pariana leaves that grow in the Amazon Jungle region of Peru, close to Pucallpa. They are carefully dried and then tied together with organic hemp string. Each Chakapa will look slightly different as it is a natural product.
