The term “Red Blend” has become popular in the United States in the last few years, but some of the best wines in the world have always been a blend of two or more grape varieties. The great Chateaux of Bordeaux such as Chateau Lafite Rothschild, is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, three percent Cabernet Franc and two percent Petit Verdot. The Opus One Winery in Napa is made from a blend of the same grapes as Lafite except they also blend in the Malbec.
