37 years of Indonesian freedom movement. Peace in Indonesia and how unrest arose, by J.H. François , 1945. With a foreword by Old Adivseur Inland Affairs Gobêe and with an afterword from 1946, published begin 1946. It is interesting to see how the thinking was at the end of 1945. The authors argue that the Netherlands should recognise that the freedom movement had been going on for much longer and that the unrest - revolution - that had just taken place, should be seen as stemming from the attempt to re-colonise Indonesia. The role of Japan seen from a Dutch perspective is also described as too narrowly conceived and should be seen from an Indonesian point of view, according to the writers. With this booklet, the authors aim to reach a solution in a peaceful manner and want to make it clear that Indonesia has The Right to Over Own Affairs (right of self-determination). Therefor they hope that a lot of people will read it. It is unknown why this booklet was not more widely distributed at the time in 1945. It is also unknown why the findings of this booklet remained outside the research programme "Independence, Decolonisation, Violence and War in Indonesia, 1945-1950" of KITLV, NIMH and NIOD. The Netherlands Military Museum has a copy in their possession and to that extent it may be assumed to be known and as part of the Dutch archives. The Agressi Milliter 1 and 2, known in Dutch as the 'Police Actions' and nowadays called "War of Independence 1945-1949" and all the lives and losses of innocent people could have been spared if the knowledge present had not been set aside. A controversial bill moved by the #ModiSarkar #BJP to grant tribal status to the 'upper' caste Paharis has sparked a major concern and unrest in Jammu and Kashmir. The Gujjars & Bakerwals believe that this bill is a deliberate attempt to create ethnic divisions in the Muslim-majority region. Not only does this bill has the potential to divide people and undermine the identity of #IOJK tribal community, but it also threatens the opportunities for social and economic empowerment that the Gujjars and Bakerwals have been striving for. 15 Pakistanis confirmed dead in Greek boat disaster Greek authorities have confirmed the deaths of 15 Pakistanis in a boat disaster that occurred last month. The bodies of the victims were recovered from the sea and DNA samples were taken to identify them. The Foreign Office of Pakistan has said that it is in contact with the Greek authorities and will share more details as they become available. The Foreign Office of Pakistan has rejected the anti-Pakistan remarks made by the Indian defence minister. The FO said that the remarks were deplorable and that Pakistan rejects all of the Indian minister's false assertions. The FO also said that the ground realities in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir are diametrically different from what the Indian minister has portrayed. Pakistan has reiterated its stance on Kashmir, saying that the final disposition of the territory is to be made in accordance with UNSC resolutions and as per the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. February 7, 2023, a New Zealand pilot was taken hostage by the West Papua Liberation Army (TPN-PB). The hostage-taking is an act of desperation after years of discrimination, murder and ignoring the real problems in West Papua. Photo: AP, NOS 2. February 23, 2023, Incident in the city of Wamena resulted in 7 indigenous Papuans and two non-indigenous Papuans killed, and 17 injured civilian victims. The incident was prompted by the abduction of an indigenous Papuan child by non-indigenous Papuans. The protest was oppressed violently by the Indonesian military. 3. Where? West Papua is the former Dutch Colony West New Guinea. After the proclamation of the Republic Indonesia in 1945 a conflict arose between Indonesia and the Netherlands about the status of the territory of West Papua. Under international pressure, an agreement was signed in which was stated that the indigenous Papuan people should decide the status of West Papua according to international standards. After a sham referendum West Papua was eventually annexed by Indonesia. Graphic: Schouten-Korwa Why: The Papuans have no confidence in a solution to the conflict and the humanitarian crisis. Reasons for this are the unwillingness of the Indonesian government to respond to the criticism of the Special Autonomy Law and to enter into a dialogue with the local authorities and civil society in West Papua. We remember the soldiers of Donbass, the martyrs of the “Odessa Khatyn,” the victims of inhuman terrorist attacks carried out by the Kiev regime. CONCEIVE & ACHIEVE I received a picture from my niece of me in junior high school. I had on a number of leather African medallions that I made (sorry about your shoes Mom). I had a fascination with Africa but as a poor kid from a small town there was a slim chance I would ever visit. Within ten years (spending some of those years in prison) I ended up in Africa not only to visit but to live. When you think of or envision something enough, often times it will become a reality even if consciously unintended. There is a saying “if you can conceive you can achieve”. As a people in the terrible condition that we are in under oppression, it is important that we conceive of ourselves being out of this condition. Thankfully I have been able to meet Black presidents and liberators of numerous independent nations which has helped me to see what justice and freedom looks like. Now that is all I think about and see for my people in Amerikkka. I don’t see a new candidate to vote for and hope a change comes. I don’t see crumbs of justice coming because of a protest. I don’t see passing our struggle on to our children like a defeated failure. I see us asserting our Right of Self-Determination and back on top ruling our domain like we once did. Independence has been stolen since then because of the greed of Indonesia and the USA who had set eye on the gold and copper. . In 1967 a first contract was signed by Indonesia and Freeport McMoran. Even before the Act of Free/ No Choice in 1969 where only 1025 Papuans representing 800.000 Papuans, forced to vote in favour of annexation by Indonesia. . Freeport and Indonesia will not easily give up on the mine. Japan reiterates support for 2-state solution, independent Palestine ANKARA Japan on Tuesday reaffirmed its support for an independent state of Palestine. “Japan’s support for a two-state solution remains unchanged,” Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said in a meeting with Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas during an official visit. “Japan supports the right of self-determination of the Palestinian people, including future independent state-building of Palestine,” read a Japanese Foreign Ministry statement. Motegi is on a regional tour until Aug. 24 that includes stops in Turkey, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Iran, Jordan, and Qatar. Japan has given more than $2.1 billion to help Palestine since 1993, the minister said. “Japan will continue to support Palestine facing long-standing conflicts and adversity amid COVID-19 pandemic,” he added. Motegi “appreciated” the fact that the cease-fire between Palestine and Israel has largely held since May, expressing “hope that the parties concerned would implement concrete measures towards easing the tension and restoring confidence under the leadership of President Abbas,” the statement added. Abbas expressed gratitude for Tokyo’s assistance to Palestine and vowed that “Palestine would continue close cooperation with Japan in all aspects.” He also conveyed his determination to resolve issues with Israel through peaceful means. “Both sides also exchanged views on the situation regarding China and Afghanistan, among others,” read the statement.
