In my early teenage hood each trip to a VHS and later DVD shop was a blow into my head. I was munchkin on films like #pulpfiction #12monkeys #pi #losthighway then beloved #fightclub #matrix #blairwitchproject #memento #amoresperros or #ethernalsunshineofthespotlessmind Characteristic timeline twists and shifts of perspectives were like a cinematic drag and made me deeply fall with films. What I later found out was that I grew up during the peak of postmodern cinema. A narrative trend in films that often emphasized subjects of identity crisis in relation to societal norms, values, questioning human nature and dealing with layers of subjective realities. Today the style of postmodern cinema is still used in form of narrative structures and broken timelines. But I feel like this style used up it’s impact already. Since we began living inside own social media bubbles, endless information hum and airing own and daily reality shows I am asking myself if there is a greater need for a simplicity of the message and a common understanding of where and who we are. Not only as individuals but also as a society. If you have in mind a movie that talks about it and touched you in some way, just drop a line. I am super curious. Is #postmoderncinema over? Hmm...

Postmodern cinema has emerged in the 1980s and 1990s as a powerfully creative force in Hollywood filmmaking, reflecting and helping to shape the historic convergence of media culture, technology, and consumerism. It corresponds to the post-Fordist, globalized phase of capitalist development typified by increasing class polarization, social atomization, urban chaos and violence, ecological crisis, and mass depoliticisation. لورا مالوی: برای اولین بار وقتی در سال ۱۹۹۶ زیر درختان زیتون را دیدم با سینمای کیارستمی آشنا شدم. بعد از دیدن فیلم ناگهان تکان خوردم چون دیدم سینما می تواند همچنان شگفتی آور، زیبا و‌ متفکرانه باشد . برای من به عنوان یک نظریه پرداز سینمایی، فیلم کیارستمی بیشتر شبیه اثری آوانگارد بود تا سینمای هنری. شیوه داستان گویی او، شکل فیلمبرداری و رویارویی او با واقعیت سینمایی، هر نوع چارچوب تحلیلی و زیبایی شناسانه ای را که در ذهن داریم می شکند. حس عدم قطعیت روشنفکرانه و زیبایی شناسانه ای که در من وجود داشت با احساس از علاقه و شگفتی شدید همراه و فرمان ایست را در لحظه مناسب صادر کرد. Alfonso Cuaron's #Roma isn't just great, it's important. This is how to tell your story as a person of privilege 👏👏👏 The director has centered his domestic worker in the narrative of his young life and that's arguably a feminist act. It's possible to be both quiet and striking and we see that here. The sound alone merits viewing. : Go support The Hollywood Theater!!! It's the ONLY theater playing the film in Portland and they had to upgrade their sound system to do so. En la Filmoteca de Catalunya proyectan un ciclo de películas de Hou Hsiao Hsien en el contexto del Asian Film Festival, una oportunidad para ver una cinematografía que cuesta encontrar de estreno o de videoclub... o por internet. Yo lo conocí con Millennium Mambo (2001)... la historia pequeña de una chica que cambia de vida durante el cambio de milenio... perdiendo la inocencia y también el miedo a romper con una rutina que la asfixia y no le lleva a ninguna parte. Un novio posesivo y celoso, noches de fiesta y drogas con los amigos de siempre que han dejado de interesarle, un trabajo pobre en una discoteca. Hsiao Hsien tiene una forma muy poética de grabar, colocando la cámara como un voyeur que se sienta a mirar tras unas cortinas... nada distante... pero tampoco intrusivo... Parece ser que influyó en “In the Mood for Love” de Wong Kar Wai. Me encantaba el cine de Wong Kar-Wai hasta que él se americanizó. Tenía frescura en su forma de realizar videoclipero y narraba el desencuentro, su tema favorito, de igual forma. Casi con simpatía, con la comprensión capaz de desdramatizar lo que en otros tiempos era de rompe y rasga. La vida postmoderna no es una línea sin fisuras... parecen muchas líneas que se cruzan formando constelaciones... como debe de ser Hong Kong... Luego, dejó ese trocito de China para filmar en Estados Unidos y su mirada se volvió monolítica y pesadamente afectada.
