MUBI 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑(2,5 su 5) Crimes of the Future Anno: 1970 Regia: David Cronenberg Il corpo era già al centro del cinema di David Cronenberg in “Crimes of the Future”, opera seconda ambientata in un futuro distopico (1997) in cui l’intera popolazione di donne in età post-puberale è stata annientata da un’epidemia scatenata dal tentativo di un dermatologo di curare le patologie derivate dall'eccessivo uso dei cosmetici. Come in “Stereo”, il regista canadese affida il racconto del film alla voce fuori campo, un espediente che ricorda molto la Nouvelle Vague, e mette in scena la mutazione come approdo inevitabile di un mondo che vuole autodistruggersi. Sono già riconoscibili in compendio le coordinate della sua poetica, quei “crimini del futuro” che svilupperà con una maturità stilistica e una migliore consapevolezza dei propri mezzi nel remake/riordinamento del 2022. Alcune immagini sono già potenti e disturbanti, manca però la capacità di creare uno sviluppo narrativo che le colleghi, che faccia da ponte tra l’immaginazione di Cronenberg e la realizzazione del suo mondo interiore, molto probabilmente anche per il ridottissimo budget a disposizione. Stereo, David Cronenberg (1969) Eşi benzerine az rastlanabilecek bir eser. Belli ki üzerine çok kafa yorulmuş ve bir gerçeklik yaratılmış. Geçmişten gelen, geleceğe yönelik bir Mockumentary olarak tanımlanabileceğini düşünüyorum. Filmde görsellere ait hiç ses bulunmuyor ve aslında bu durum filmi izleyen için zorlaştırıyor. Çeşitli görsellerin üzerine okunmuş bir makaleye benziyor. Gerçekte denenmesi pek de mümkün olmayan bir deneyin 7 kişi üzerindeki etkilerine benzer görüntüler izletilirken bir yandan seslendirmeyi takip etmek insanı biraz yoruyor. Mekan seçimi çok iyi ve ilginç. Mimari olarak ilgi çekici olan bu bina, bir kovalama sahnesinde labirente o kadar benziyor ki deneklerin insan değil de laboratuvar hayvanı olabileceğini düşündürüyor. Sessizce geçen sahnelerde kullanılan imgelerin ne anlama geldiğini sadece merak edebiliyor insan. Aslında hayali bir deneyi izlerken izleyene de bir deneye katıldığı hissettirilmeye çalışılmış gibi. Sonuçta film bittikten sonra "Ne izledim ben şimdi?" kafa karışıklığından öte bir şey algılamak zor. Hem içerik hem de etki itibariyle fazlasıyla deneysel ve gerçekten ilgilenip filmi merak edenler dışında sabredip de izlemesi (1 saat bile olsa) oldukça zor. #stereo #davidcronenberg #ronaldmlodzik
MUBI 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑 (2,5 su 5) Stereo Anno: 1969 Regia: David Cronenberg Opera prima di David Cronenberg, “Stereo” contiene in nuce molte delle tematiche che il regista canadese svilupperà nei suoi successivi film, in particolare l’attenzione verso l’alterazione degli stati mentali e fisici e la visione apocalittica del sesso. Girato con un budget ridottissimo e ambientato in un futuro imprecisato, muove da un esperimento condotto su sette volontari per verificare le teorie sulla telepatia del parapsicologo Luther Stringfellow. Se da un lato funziona nel mettere in scena la claustrofobia degli spazi e l’imminenza della fine, il film sembra più un saggio di fine corso di cinematografia con una ridondante e molesta voce fuori campo che non aggiunge nulla all’atmosfera e all’arco narrativo. Tale sintomo è correlato alla sindrome di Rouge che in passato si manifestava solo nelle donne in età postpuberale. Scuole di pensiero, corporazioni, gruppi dediti a oscure tecniche di comunicazione...è quest'ultima il soggetto comprimario dell'intera opera? L'utilizzo del suono, distorto, silenziato e intervallato in scene surreali (se rapportate a quanto raccontato dall'io narrante, che nel cambio di tono, quasi di timbro, sembra egli stesso dissociarsi in narratore onnisciente) introduce agli spazi interni ed esterni delle sedi degli istituti. Le grandi strutture* a disposizione del regista riescono a essere adibite ad ambientazioni anche in considerazione della storia e delle informazioni messe in condivisione con lo spettatore: data la natura dei contenuti che emergono da ricordi, resoconti e riflessioni, si ha come l'impressione di vivere un trip lucidissimo. “Crimes of the Future” (1970) is a sci-fi film directed by David Cronenberg starring Ronald Mlodzik, Jon Lidolt, Tania Zolty and Jack Messinger. Man, i really wish this didn’t have to be the first Cronenberg film i watched - this is 63 minutes of my life I’ll never be able to get back. I see what he was trying to do here. It was one of his first ever films and pretty much an experimental student film but from start to finish this was a slow, boring, weird mess. I couldn’t even explain what the premise of the film is, it’s a silent film with commentary over the top from the lead protagonist and the one thing I got from it is that it features elements of foot fetish and paedophilia which says all that needs to be said really. The performances are okay i guess considering the characters never actually speak, there’s just so much uncomfortable scenes to watch in the movie and i was just so perplexed throughout the whole ordeal. The film also used these very uncomfortable and irritating sounds over the top of the visuals which I’m sure was to create further nervousness and discomfort within the audience, which believe me it did. The movie just moves so slowly too, i was only 13 minutes in and it felt like an hour honestly, the structure was just so poor and the pacing even poorer. Overall, i only watched this movie in preparation for seeing the remake later today and after watching it i can see why Cronenberg did decide to redo this one because this was just awful. Estenuante, verboso, esageratamente criptico, inconcludente, imperfetto, spesso autocompiaciuto, eppure perturbante, psichedelico, sperimentale, affascinante, morboso, provocatorio, avanguardistico, unico. Con un grande Ronald Mlodzik, che è uno dei volti più singolari ed angoscianti che abbiano mai incontrato la macchina da presa. Questo mercoledì, esce nelle sale italiane "Crimes of the Future", l'ultimo film del pioniere, inventore e maestro del body horror, nonché profeta della (nuova) carne David Cronenberg. Pellicola che prende il proprio titolo dal secondo lungometraggio del regista, datata 1970, che segue il vagare del dottor Adrian Tripod - proprietario della clinica dermatologica House of Skin - in un mondo dove ha ucciso un'epidemia (quest'ultima dovuta ad un eccessivo utilizzo dei cosmetici) ha ucciso l'intera popolazione di donne in età post-puberale. Oltre a vedere Cronenberg impegnato come sceneggiatore, montatore, direttore della fotografia e produttore, la particolarità di Crimes of the Future (1970) è il suo essere fondamentalmente un flusso di coscienza quasi memorialistico, percorso da un'atmosfera opprimente, plumbea, metallica, estraniante, che è data innanzitutto dalla totale assenza di dialoghi e colonna sonora, a favore di un'unica voce narrante e di suoni e rumori subacquei particolarmente inquietanti. Una visione che, oltre che necessaria per un approccio più completo e consapevole all'ultimissima distopia del regista, siamo certi vi colpirà, a prescindere dal vostro gusto e delle vostre impressioni, e anzi farà crescere in voi qualcosa di alieno, indefinito e sfuggente, che difficilmente riuscirete ad espellere. Został tydzień do premiery „Zbrodni przyszłości”, więc robię odliczanie. Nie mogę się już doczekać, zresztą chyba nie tylko ja 😉 Z tej okazji codziennie będzie jakaś ciekawostka, żeby się bardziej nakręcić na ten film. Dzisiaj piątek, więc coś prostego: Nie, „Zbrodnie przyszłości” to nie jest remake jednego z pierwszych filmów Cronenberga, choć tytuł jest taki sam. W wywiadach padło już kilka razy takie pytanie, ale wszystko zostało w tej sprawie wyjaśnione. Pierwotnie scenariusz do tego filmu był zatytułowany „Painkillers”, ale uznano go za mało atrakcyjny. Za to do fabuły bardzo pasowało „Crimes of the future”. Cronenberg i Lantos (producent) stwierdzili, że użycie tego tytułu ponownie nie będzie problemem. Mało kto widział tamten półamatorski film z 1970 roku, nie jest też kluczowy w karierze Cronenberga, więc zdecydowano się na recykling tytułu. Moim zdaniem pasuje znakomicie 👌 ⭐ Zadanie z gwiazdką dla chętnych: zobaczcie sobie tamten film z 1970 roku. Trwa godzinkę z minutami, grają amatorzy, brak dialogów, a jedynie narracja Cronenberga z offu. Realizacyjnie film aż krzyczy, że jest niszowym eksperymentem zrobionym za paczkę fajek, ale fabularne to jest mocne kino. Widać, że Cronenberg za młodu miał baaardzo konkretne podejście do gatunku science fiction i body horroru. So much so that I couldn’t stop thinking about and had to exorcise it a bit with a short series you see here now. It’s one of my favorite moments in the film (the backgrounds all interpretations of the whole story through my malformed dog-brain). If you haven’t seen this movie, I can’t recommend it enough. Also, Ronald Mlodzik is pure magic throughout the film. Shivers is one of Cronenberg's Canadian masterpieces along with Rabid. Parts of the film felt a bit like the 70s American film Coma, which is a badass film, so that is a good thing. Just a really smart inventive film with an intriguing storyline. Some of the special effects and what not were pure cheese, but I can overlook that in a lower budget film like this. Good stuff.
