I want to do things with more intentionality. Instead of getting up I want to be grateful to open my eyes, take a moment to let breath fill my insides before the rest of the world has a chance to. I want to put my feet on the ground and think how lucky I am to be able to stand, stretch immediately because movement is the key to presence. Poem Sunday: Sometimes worldly affairs get in our head making us rush through “connection” time with our creator. Without trying to normalize it I want to acknowledge it. Because being aware of a “problem” is the first step to overcome it. Whenever I find myself in a situation where I would need to rush my Salah (lectures, meetings, etc.) I try to remind myself that this is OUR bonding time. I can wash away my sins with wudu (pre prayer washing) and disconnect with the problems of THIS world for a few minutes . Our creator is sooo patient the least I can do is take my time for the opportunity HE created for ME. I believe Mufti Menk said it once. “Life is NOT a movie where prayer times are commercial breaks , it should be the other way around.” And that stuck with me. While listening to The @lizmoody Podcast on my way home today, this quote moved me to write in my journal. I think we as humans try to run away from our finite nature, and in turn, seem to forget that all we ever have is this moment. If I were to die tomorrow, what would the most important thing on my to-do list be? Training my dog? Doing yoga? Writing in my journal? Prepping the meals for the week? The list never ends. The next time you feel overwhelmed by your list of tasks, remember that you can only ever take one step at a time. Wash one dish at a time. See one little bit of the road at a time. The fossils of an unsettling nightmare greeted her with a wallpaper of caricatures- all in deep monochrome shades. The slender shadows transpired the unsung elegies of a buried past. Like souvenirs kept untouched in a foyer of anticipations, forged smiles proffered forced conversations. Bound by the ornamental emotions of a gazillion faces that reeled her thoughts day and night, her heart but a mausoleum of ties that once bore jasmines and jades. In the daze of utmost chaos, with a heart that rebelled against choices and preferences, the answers materialized as goodbyes and chosen silences. Blurred boundaries slowly traced her relations. The familiar lines found her in qualms. ' A breathing thing.' 'A memory to someone.' A home to a life.' Not anymore! 'A coffer of memories' was all she could label herself now; Crushed under the corporeal smiles of deliberate departures. A menagerie of suppressed grief, a monolith sculpted of frozen thoughts and ingrained life- lessons. Splotches of the past lay indelible in dark patches of crimson, diffusing into her identity, defining her words and thoughts.
