All writers get asked, “Where do your ideas come from?” and I’ve never been able to crystalize an answer as well as Neil Gaiman who said, “Confluence.” Two ideas coming together. It’s one thing to think, “I want to do a new ‘Treasure Island.’” That’s an idea, sure. Good one. But then to think, “I want to do ‘Treasure Island’ IN SPACE.” Those two coming together, well, that’s an IDEA. Chatting these Instagrams specifically, I think, “X premiered today” or “Y was born today;” worth writing about. But then something sparks, “And I can tell THAT story” or, “Share THAT photo” and I’m in. . Well, a wonderful confluence dropped in my lap last Sunday when my dear friend @godzillandy knocked on our door – my Family and I were watching the ’33 ‘King Kong’ (my 6 Year Old’s first time) – Andy handing me a Signed Photo (seen here) of Margaret Kerry, the Model for Tinkerbell in today’s Classic (Andy’d just been at the Pasadena ComicCon, knew I’d appreciate, grabbed one for me). To say I was grateful is an understatement. This is genuinely the stuff of Disney Legend (I mean, she was THERE). So what a great Idea to write about; after all, Happy 70th: . ‘Peter Pan’ . Remember how it opens? “All of this has happened before and it will all happen again.” You know the story, the versions. Confluence again, coming from the J.M. Barrie Play, adapted many times before and since, today’s getting the Disney touch, becoming a Classic, and birthing one of THE – to this day – cherished rides in The Disney Parks. And when my 6 Year Old and I pull out of the Driveway? We shout, “Here we Gooooo!” .
