Luca Guadagnino dirige un film ambientato nel mondo del tennis ma incentrato sulla rivalità (anche amorosa) tra tre ragazzi. La storia racconta delle vicende di un trio di tennisti. Tashi Duncan è un'ex tennista che adesso è diventata allenatrice. Durante gli anni come giocatrice Tashi era un vero e proprio prodigio, uno tsunami potente e infallibile che esigeva il massimo da se' stessa, e non solo sul campo. Una star che ha brillato intensamente, con una personalità forte e grintosa e una grande - meritata - fiducia nelle proprie capacità. Un disgraziato infortunio in campo ha fermato l'ascesa di questo astro del tennis a soli diciotto anni, ma Tashi non si è mai data per vinta. In quel periodo Tashi ha fatto la conoscenza di Art e Patrick, due tennisti e migliori amici. Hey, guys. So I finished watching "Tank Girl", and it was okay. It is based on the British comic series of the same name created by Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin, and was published by Deadline Publications Ltd. and Dark Horse Comics. It stars Lori Petty, Naomi Watts, Ice-T, and Malcolm McDowell. The story follows after a comet disrupts the rain cycle of Earth, the planet has become a desolate, barren desert by the year 2033. With resources scarce, Kesslee, the head of the powerful and evil Water & Power Corporation, the de facto government, has taken control of the water supply. Unwilling to cower under Kesslee's tyrannical rule, a pair of outlaws known as Tank Girl and Jet Girl rise up, joining the mysterious rebel Rippers to destroy the corrupt system. Now I know that "Tank Girl" was a box-office failure, and was panned by everyone. But I kind of liked this movie. I thought was quite enjoyable. The action scenes are decent, the visual effects are also decent, the music score and songs are good, the animation of the comic books are really good, and Lori Petty is actually good in the role, along with Naomi Watts and Malcolm McDowell. I like the character of Tank Girl. She's pretty much as tough as Pamela Anderson's Barb Wire, and as crazy as Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. As for Jet Girl, she's kind of shy at the beginning, until now, she's also crazy and tough as well. Anyway, despite being financial flop, it's a really solid, action, post-apocalyptic science fiction film as it has since become a cult classic and has been noted for its feminist themes. A failure, but like "Barb Wire", it's a guilty pleasure gem. Thumbs up for me on "Tank Girl". A cameraman and a sound technician capturing the iconic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer logo, 1928. The lion was chosen as the company's mascot in 1916 by publicist Howard Dietz, as a tribute to his alma mater Columbia University, whose mascot is a lion. There have been a total of seven different lions used for the MGM logo. Pictured here is Jackie, who was the second lion to be featured on-screen and the first one to roar. He appeared in over 100 films between 1928-1956, the first being White Shadows in the South Seas (1928). Jackie is also known for surviving a record number of freak accidents including two train wrecks, a sinking ship, an earthquake, an explosion in the studio, and a plane crash. MGM tries its hand at the backstage musical, and where else are you gonna see Joan Crawford dancing while the Three Stooges (egged on by bully Ted Healey) cause mayhem around her, and then see her dance alongside Fred Astaire (in his film debut) on a flying cylinder into a bizarre Bavarian beer number. And lots of precode fun too, it starts off in a strip hall where Joan is a down on her luck stripper alongside a whole group of girls who all get arrested for public indecency. A cameraman and a sound technician capturing the iconic Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer logo, 1928. The lion was chosen as the company's mascot in 1916 by publicist Howard Dietz, as a tribute to his alma mater Columbia University, whose mascot is a lion. There have been a total of seven different lions used for the MGM logo. Pictured here is Jackie, who was the second lion to be featured on-screen and the first one to roar. He appeared in over 100 films between 1928-1956, the first being White Shadows in the South Seas (1928). Jackie is also known for surviving a record number of freak accidents including two train wrecks, a sinking ship, an earthquake, an explosion in the studio, and a plane crash. Leo the Lion is the mascot for the Hollywood film studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and one of its predecessors, Goldwyn Pictures, featured in the studio’s production logo, which was created by the Paramount Studios art director Lionel S. Reiss. Since 1916, there have been seven different lions used for the MGM logo. Although MGM has referred to all of the lions used in their trademark as “Leo the Lion”, only the current lion, in use since 1957 (a total of 63 years), was actually named Leo. In these photos you can see Leo being directed by and having a meal with English Filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock.

Executive Secretary to studio head Louis B. Mayer, Ida Koverman yielded great power at MGM. Jean Harlow had just returned to the studio after a three month suspension over a salary dispute. On February 14, 1934 she sent this note on her new butterfly stationary enlisting Ida’s aid. When Harlow did a photoshoot at MGM the photos were always sent to Harlow’s mother for approval first. Somehow this had lapsed during her suspension, and she was having a hard time fixing the problem. I suspect Ida Koverman was able to remedy this immediately. Photo of Ida Koverman on the right. Vor einhundert Jahren legten Samuel Goldwyn und Louis B. Mayer ihre Ressourcen zusammen, um als großes Filmstudio Fuß zu fassen. Universal hatte die Monster, Paramount hatte die Komödien, aber MGM wurde groß mit Musicals, Monumental- und Ausstattungsfilmen. Und mit einem brüllenden Löwen als Logo. MGM war das Studio, das das Studiosystem im Grunde erst erfand: Produktionsmaßstäbe hatten Priorität, Regisseure waren minderbezahlte Hochleistungshandwerker; Stars waren das Kapital; Filme hatten einen Look zu haben. So entstanden Meilensteine wie Zauberer von Oz, Ben Hur, Meuterei auf der Bounty, High Society, Der unsichtbare Dritte. Doch das Publikum wandelte sich, der Geschmack wurde offener, düsterer, intellektueller, vielschichtiger. Was einen Look hat, sieht irgendwann alt aus. Der kitschige Prunk passte nicht mehr in die Sixties. MGM stieg zunächst auf Fernsehen um (Tom & Jerry, M*A*S*H, Daktari, Flipper!) und dann auf neues Feeling: Das dreckige Dutzend, Westworld, 2001, Shaft, Platoon, Robocop. Nix mehr Familienfilme, aber immer noch sehr gutes Kino. Sony übernahm 2005, und heute gehören sie Amazon. On this day in 1985, we remember the late American 🇺🇸 actress and educator Margaret Hamilton who would have been 122 this year. She was best known for her portrayal of the Wicked Witch of the West and her Kansas counterpart Almira Gulch in the 1939 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film The Wizard of Oz. A former schoolteacher, she worked as a character actress in films for seven years before she was offered the role that defined her public image. In later years, Hamilton appeared in films and made frequent cameo appearances on television sitcoms and commercials. She also gained recognition for her work as an advocate of causes designed to benefit children and animals and retained a lifelong commitment to public education. She subsequently developed Alzheimer’s disease and died in her sleep following a heart attack on May 16, 1985, in Salisbury, Connecticut, at the age of 82. Hamilton’s remains were cremated.
