Here is another that I really enjoy. I used only 4 colors to paint this one, I can't remember exactly what they were but I'm pretty sure it was white, black, yellow ochre and cadmium red, definitely not all the primaries. I painted this when I was very sad, and very lonely. I painted it quite quickly as well, maybe over the course of an hour or so. My intent in this painting was to capture the grim and bleak nature of a snowless winter in the northeast US. Watching the family through the window, he witnessed for the first time what love and belonging mean. He understood that, deep down, he had a need for this too but as soon as he entered the house, he was met with fear based purely on what he looked like. The family kicked him out of the house and the monster was left alone in the woods, feeling all the more strongly what he was longing for. I was so moved by that part in the book 💔 Although still in the woods, the picture presents Frankenstein's monster as though he had fallen through some cracks in the earth, now completely surrounded by darkness. The happy world above him which he wished to enter, seems to have been broken, as has his hope of finding belonging. He hides in the night time. Opposite the moon, the little raindrops symbolise tears. Kim Jakobsson is a swedish artist that focuses on creating surrealistic paintings. He mostly works digitally, where he distorts and manipulates the subject in a way that makes them appear like something from a bad dream. Using different layers to create effects that wouldn’t be possible to achieve using a real canvas with oils. Kim has a philosophy that you shouldn’t strive to create digital art unless it’s something truly unique that can’t be created with traditional methods. His paintings reflect some sort of darker world within ourself. A place that we might be afraid to acknowledge. His art is not about violence though, more about the loneliness in which we might find ourselves in this journed called life.
