In the 2000s, with the rise of Operación Triunfo and even amidst the explosion of sales until the appearance of more ruthless piracy, Vale Music released everything they could get their hands on without any kind of filter... and this is a good example: Rockollection by Toia. Rockollection is one of the quirkiest albums I own, basing its concept on Laurent Voulzy's song, who in turn plays with different iconic songs to create a sort of medley that cleverly links them together. Ultimately, this is a double album based on only 7 songs, almost all of them being versions, totaling 15 tracks divided into short, long, and remixes sung in different languages. Is it worth releasing an album of this kind without any promotion?... It's one of the mysteries of the time, because at the end, it's not an album that will go down in history due to Toia's voice or its production. Height 12 cm. - This small figure group represents ‘Uncle Tom’ and ‘Eva’, two characters from the anti-slavery novel ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ by the American author and abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-96). The novel was first published in serial form in 1851 and this figure would have been produced shortly after. - The novel focuses on the tale of Uncle Tom, an enslaved African American man. Eva is a white girl whom he rescues from drowning then is employed on her family’s plantation. - ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ was the best-selling book of the 19th century and is regarded as a driving force behind America’s anti-slavery movement. It also contributed to the negative stereotyping of black people, particularly in the character of Uncle Tom who passively accepts his fate. - The reverse of the figure is largely undecorated as it would have been intended for display on a mantelpiece or shelf. - The model itself is of an unusually small size and made from a single piece of clay. During the same ceremony Gerry Goffin and Carole King received the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performing industry professionals who, through their dedicated belief and support of artists and their music, have had a major influence on the creative development and growth of rock and roll.
