Welp...it's been confirmed nature hates my face. I was told I'm in the top 1-2% of people with this kind of scratch test reaction...not the 1% I was hoping to be part of lol. I'm allergic to MANY tree, grass, and weed pollens. Also I learned that my allergy to melons and cucumber is because the molecules look similar to pollen molecules I'm also allergic to. Both cats and dogs. As well as a handful other things confimed by my previous patch test. BUT I did test negative for allergy to avocado!!! Project Lemon, Days 6-13: 13/03/2024 In the past one week I did some reading, some writing, a fair bit of sketching and a whole lot of thinking. A lot of the time it was just me rotting in bed and picking my brains to find a seamless way of joining the bits and pieces of the story I had in my head. At times I felt like my head was splitting from the exertion of trying to come up with a 'perfect' story. 🍋This is where the name 'Project Lemon' saved me. The best piece of advice @drawinghistoryofscience has given me in my tortuous journey of creating my very first comics is "বেশি লেবু কচলিও না" which literally translates to "don't squeeze a lemon too much" because well, it gets bitter from the rind. In my quest to make the most perfect comics ever I have been hung up with this piece of work for almost a year now. In hindsight I think it was artistic hubris to presume I could master a medium that has a legacy of so many masters and years of history, all of which I had been ignorantly oblivious of. But the more I learnt about comics as a medium, the more I was intimidated by the complexity of the visual language. There came a point when I was too paralysed to proceed with my own work. The Art and Cognition Confluence Residency (slide 4/4) with @art.iitgn earlier this year armed me with fresh perspectives and encouragement from other artist friends. The session by @andrea.kantrow helped me learn how to use drawing to overcome my creative block. @dawnhunterart's talk helped me understand her process and streamline my own haphazard efforts. Most inspiring was observing @trilcegarcia create graphic stories on the go (slide 3/4) based on the events of the Confluence. I kept a journal of my own, pages of which I shall share in some later post. I deep-dived into the comics-in-progress again. I'm a beginner, my work won't be the turning point in the history of comics but it shall be a turning point for me, a source of confidence that I too can be a visual storyteller. This work is a deconstruction of a lighter that’s been laying broken for a few months on my desk. With every work thus far I have a companion piece I create. The secondary piece is made to experiment with different mark making and also to utilize the rest of the mixed paint on the palette.
