🐱📜A carousel of fun highlights from Tokyo’s book district, Jimbocho. We had an absolute blast running all over the neighborhood at Christmastime looking for cool vintage vinyls, manga, and interesting reads to give each other as presents in the hotel room. I loved how so many shops were dedicated to just one theme, like cats or ‘60s fashion or ‘80s Gundam. Some great moments were sifting through camera catalogues from the 60s and stumbling upon a sidewalk sale of nature guide books (which I can never say no to). I bought the bird and tea ceremony guides from ‘73. Not to mention, there were so many unique shop tote bags! 4️⃣ April 🌸 1. Spending a lot of my days exploring with Boo 👻 2. Living 15 minutes from the beach has been really therapeutic for my soul 🌊 3-6. Morioka weekend getaway 🏮 7-9. Hirosaki cherry blossom festival 🌸 10. My kitchen: started a new job as a cook! April was a blur, we got to see and do a lot! I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t struggling. It’s been a rough couple of months and I’m entirely homesick every day. But the sun has been shining, the flowers and the earth are coming back to life and things are turning really green around here, so that helps! We’ve gotten to experience a bit more of Japan and this country is seriously beautiful. I miss all the cherry blossoms already: what once was a sea of white flowers is now bright green, just as quickly as it came on, now it’s gone - it makes it all the more special in the moment!☀️ I’m really excited about my new job, it’s an Air Force DOD government position and I’m working more hours with better pay as a cook at a childcare facility. It’s independent and keeps me busy cooking for kids and cleaning. I really thrive when I’m active so it’s been a nice change of pace. Sometimes I’m like, wow it’s already May!? And other times I’m like, “wow, it’s…only…May 🫠”. Idk. Life is sort of kicking my butt right now and the growing pains feel like too much at times. One day at a time though. Staying at a ski in ski out resort was a DREAM. A mere 20 second scoot to the gondola every morning unlocking so much terrain and powdery goodness. Day 25 - Enoshima and Kamakura For this day, I decided to go to Kamakura to rent a bike to ride along the sea and to visit Enoshima, which I hadn’t seen yet but had often heard about. The result is that I did go to Enoshima but for a very short time because, being Sunday and the first sunny day after a week of clouds and rain, everyone had the same idea as me, and so moving around was almost impossible. I spent the day cycling along the waterfront or on the almost deserted streets around Kamakura and Enoshima, seeing small, semi-unknown temples or streets filled only with trees, super relaxing and really beautiful. I had a lot of fun; the feelings of peace that the sea gives me here in Japan are truly spectacular and are among my favorite days! cherryblossom viewing in Takayama; right before the spring festival started. it was so peaceful here, in contrary to the old town-area where the floats would be carried around and soo many people where gathered to see it happen.
Uji, Kyoto Wróciłam dziś do pracy po urlopie wychowawczym. W kwietniu miałam kilka dni dla siebie po tym jak dziecko przyzwyczaiło się do żłobka i zaliczyło pierwszą chorobę 😂 Miałam górę rzeczy, które chciałam zrobić w kwietniu, ale ostatecznie nie wystarczyło mi czasu, więc przestałam martwić się obowiązkami i jednego dnia pojechałam na kilka godzin do Uji w Kioto 🍵 Uji jest znane z herbaty dlatego zawsze było jednym z moich ulubionych miejsc, ale tym razem pojechałam sprawdzić wisterie w Byōdōin i azalie w innym miejscu, które pokażę w kolejnym poście. No i wydaje mi się, że jest trochę mniej znane niż centrum Kioto czy Arashiyama i dzięki temu mniej zatłoczone (i faktycznie nie było tragedii tego dnia, ale była to środa). Jak widać na zdjęciach, wisterie były w pełnym rozkwicie i były przepiękne! Gdzieniegdzie kwitły też azalie. Wisterie były w dwóch miejscach, przed wejściem do Byōdōin i już na terenie świątyni (ta druga bardziej efektowna). Bardzo przyjemne miejsce, w środku ciekawe muzeum i nawet sklepik z pamiątkami miał fajny asortyment.
