For #worldcrossstitchday here’s a look at a project my mum and I are both stitching. The pattern is “Live on Little” by Plum Street Samplers (we’ve taken to calling it “Live a Little”) We both changed the words to the first lines of the poem Sea Fever, and changed the quilt block motif to a compass, and we’ve made a few different colour choices. Mine is the one with blue lettering. Seeing them side by side, I am very tempted to pick out my compass and re-stitch it in blue!

some days you had planned to do very excellent things like conjure dosh out of thin air and other days you are braced to wrestle terrible ruinous tasks of great energy depletion, like adulting, and then what happens is you wake up and see a beauful manatee sitting on a beach looking at the past. aint nobody got time for that so you turn around and get on with it which seems sludgily hard so you put relaxing piano music on to keep calm and carry on. but something keeps calling even though you’re 38 miles above sea level and then a wave of sadness tippy toes over your hair and your eyes go tingly and your heart hurts even though you don’t know why, it must be the piano music, and you have to turn it off. but then the faraway sea grows louder after all, no conch needed, and it is sea who is crying, who just wanted to impress upon you how desperately important it is to come back, come back to where you were so very loved, do you remember? and you sit at your desk and you pat your smooth blue tummy and pull the seaweed from your hair, and you begin to remember. 🌊❤️i hope you pat your beautiful tummy today ps its 4 years since i drew my first manatee in slide 2, but i felt she would have kept her bikini, for special occasions 😆

oh joy, oh joy, my heart, my heart, i returned to the sea yesterday! 🧜🏻♀️ 🙌🏻 💚 . forgive the absence of dreamy, poetic words, i just have to get right to announcing my complete jubilation over this! . i am so extra elated, you see, because through vacation + holidays + other busy life stuff, i hadn’t been to the seaside since my birthday in november. to be exact, it had been 12 weeks + 3 days. 🫢 that is WAY too long for a seasoul to go without the sea! . and i finally felt well enough to pack up everything and make the drive there {which isn’t too long, but it’s been long enough to keep me from going sooner ~ and this is why i need to live in a beach house, just sayin’ ☺️💕🌊🏡}. . i took it easy, but had a ball. first i laid on my blanket taking deep breaths of the sea air and all its good, healing ions. 🌬️ then i ate a picnic lunch, took slow walks, beachcombed a bit, played and wrote in the sand, and … i even painted! . i also loved watching the waves dance, ebb + flow, and leave their lacy, abstract art designs on the sand. and this seafoam heart appeared, and it wasn’t a perfect, traditionally shaped one, but it worked for me! i think it seems softer, like a hug, with no sharp point at the end. . i’ll take it, i love it, i love the seaside, and i love all of you! xo . 💖 🫧 🌊 . p.s. i’m a day late with yesterday’s heart, as being seaside always wears me out {in the best way}. i was too peacefully tired + blissed out to post that night. but that means two hearts and double the love today! 💞 i love that i was forest bathing one day, and beach bathing the next. how extra wonderful these outings have made life {and me} feel! i am getting better! there absolutely are healing properties in these places, and they are excellent for the spirit. so, get into nature as often as possible, dear people, especially if you’re ill, or down or anxious ~ it can truly help you. 🌿 🌊 🌾 . {my 10th heart for #thismonthoflove ~ where you too are invited to share your own hearts! 💘} . #ohjoy #returntothesea #mybliss #beachbathing #stopandsmelltheseasalt #goodforthesoul #thecureforanything #natureheals #loveheals #seafoamheart #beachmagic #giftfromthesea #theseaoflove
