Disaster update 💩 ... After the disaster I had in the van, which resulted in having to pull up carpet, I've made changes 🤭 First, the flooring .. I now have hard-wearing tiles, which actually turned out better than I thought 🤭 The second is extra storage. I was going to have over headstorage but decided, actually, I don't want that, so I now have an L shape sofa with extra storage and new shelving for the side of the bed 👍 Third, the AstroTurf step is gone, and it now matches the rest of the van 🥳 I still have a few tweaks to do before it's officially done .. Couldn't have done it without my Jon, though. We returned to Pienza this morning, on foot from the nearby hilltop village of Monticchiello. Including a wander around Pienza once we’d arrived, lunch and a gelato, it was around 9 miles in total of beautiful Tuscan countryside. Lots of hills and very hot when we returned this afternoon but well worth it. Lovely to see all the wild flowers, fields of olive trees and rows of vines. Well Alhambra, you did not disappoint 🤩🤩🤩 One of the most famous, and best preserved, monuments of Islamic architecture. Despite being ripped off for online tickets (last night thinking it was a complete scam - don’t ask, long story 😤) and running up and down the hill to collect physical tickets, we got in at 9 and through to the Nazrid Palaces at 9.15 🤗 Mark had the best time, with the audio app playing through his hearing aids while snapping away 📸 Here 10 out of about 80 taken today!! Once out of the palaces there was so much else to see. We just spent the whole day wandering and absorbing everything, from architectural and artistic details, gardens, to views over the whole city. Otherwise, no words……you will just have to visit yourselves! Back at the vets today with Mabel. She’s been on antibiotics for a week due to her high white blood cell count and we were hoping she’d be fine for her first vaccination today. Unfortunately she’s got an inflamed spleen and a stomach infection. So we now have different medication for the next 10 days. Then, hopefully she’ll be ready for the rabies vaccination. So the plan is: - Meds for 10 days - Rabies vaccination - A week or so later the other vaccinations - 21 days after the rabies shot we can get a pet passport - She also needs to be spayed at some point. We’re going to be in Sicily for a while yet. An interesting difference between UK and Italian vets is they don’t provide dog specific meds. Disappointed doesn’t even cover it! A week before setting off on our holiday to the Lake District we receive a phone call from the @candmclub telling us that the booking we made over a month ago is now being reduced by two days, changed from fully serviced or cancelled if we’re not happy with that fact. We booked a fully serviced pitch from 25th May to 1st June and have been told last minute that works to the pitches we are staying on have overrun so we either need to accept the changes to our booking or cancel and get our deposit back. We would happily accept a lesser pitch (ie hard standing of any kind) for the same length of time but for them to tell us they are moving the booking by two days on a bank holiday we find quite disappointing and poor service to say the least. Here are some interesting facts about Michael from Smart Electrical Integrations. I was born and raised in Australia and now call Scotland home. I came to the UK in the early 2000s and based myself here to travel Europe and decided to stay because of the weather. I love the outdoors: mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, SUP, scuba diving, archery, quad skating, camping and #VanlifeUK. I am also a volunteer at Scouts. I’m the 3rd generation electrician in my family, and my Scottish ancestors originally came from Ayrshire. I still have the original multi-meter I was given by my dad to celebrate finishing my electrical apprenticeship. I started my electrical business towards the end of the pandemic after years of supporting other companies in electrical engineering, technical management, and senior leadership roles. Treated ourselves to fine dining mid afternoon after LARGE breakfast 🥐 on site, and churros for elevensies in Plaza de Bib-Rambla 😉 Restaurante Los Tomases was a hidden terrace directly overlooking Alhambra. It was quiet with attentive waiters, and our oxtail (him) sea bream (her) were served on a white table cloth with delicious wine. A relaxing treat on a day when we walked 9 miles around The Albaicín district. We only bought tickets for The Capilla Real famed for being the burial place of the Spanish Catholic monarchs, Queen Isabella Iand King Ferdinand and became the family mausoleum. Mostly we just strolled, finding viewpoints (some with snow on Sierra Nevadas) and hidden courtyards on our route. This is the medieval Moorish quarter of the city, with crooked, cobbled streets sprinkled with tapas bars, Teterias, craft shops and dozens of tourist-tat stalls. We headed into France on the Brittany ferry from Portsmouth to Ouistreham / Caen. It isn't a route we have used before but we took advice from Facebook forums and parked up at Port Solent the night before ready for our early crossing. We would definitely do this again. We hoped to leave the rain behind in the UK but sadly it seems to have travelled with us. Van tripping the UK- Shropshire hills I am so behind with my travel updated but I want to play catchup so I can keep you guys updated with Scotland!!! So a couple of weeks ago I spent some time at Shropshire hills, which is honesty was quite a surprise. Shropshire is only about 40 mins from my home town and somewhere I haven’t spent a lot of time in exploring Well to my surprise it was gorgeous! So many hikes to do, moorlands to explore and park at! Rolling hills to drive through and walk over We also visited to Shrewsbury and parked by the river for the night which was lovely Shrewsbury is an extremely spiritual town with so amazing history and fantastic old architecture I visited a witch shop and treated myself to a new pendulum. We also had cocktails at a tarot card cocktail bar!!! Very ‘me’ indeed

This is the first night we ever slept in a campervan, 10 years to the day. In this photo, the van was empty, just carpeted with a blow up bed but we’d put a lot of work in up to this point. It had just had a full respray too so we couldn’t wait to get away in it! Doesn’t matter what you’ve got, or what features it does/doesn’t have, take yourself somewhere nice and relax, it’ll start off something BIG!
