HISTORICAL BAGS - the Traditional style. This is our take on the Hedeby bag (also known as Birka or Haithabu bag) Many wooden and antler/bone pieces were found in various archaeological sites around Scandinavia, dated 9th-11th Century. The bags themselves didn't survive, so it's up for interpretation, and many recreated forms exist today. These are ours.💙 Using woven fabric outers and calico linings, we have Roadtested these awhile and we believe we have come with a pretty, durable and functional design, that carries a good amount of weight. The shoulder straps are woven with our own carved Lucet fork, using acrylic/wool blend (less stretchy than wool). The woven strap runs through both wood panels, ensuring a secure closure. We chose 2 styles: one a more Renaissance faire style (and certainly everyday wear!) The other a more 'reconstructed/traditional' style.. with plain woven fabrics, handfinished stitching in hemp twine.
