Before the gates open, we need volunteers to help to direct the stall holders to their pitches, moving stock from a car to a tent. During the Games we could really use your help working at the Games. Help with keeping the site clear of rubbish, direct people if needed, carry out surveys, make sure toilets are stocked up and assist in any other way required. It all makes a difference! At the end of the day, before we can relax, we could ALWAYS use help with the clean up at the end. 💜Active Stirling recently hosted its annual Mini Stuc Chroin Event in Strathyre, collaborating with Stuc a’ Chroin 5000. The event drew over 160 Primary School students from 15 schools within the McLaren Learning Community and Stirling. This year, the Stuc Hill race commenced up hill and tough terrain and then finished downhill onto a flat. Highland Games athletes unleash the power and precision of the Sheaf Toss: A Highland Games Spectacle. For generations, the Sheaf Toss has been a cherished tradition at the Highland Games. In this captivating event, participants toss a hefty 16-pound (7 kg) burlap sack filled with straw over a bar set horizontally above them. Each contender gets three opportunities to propel the sack over the bar without any contact. With each round of attempts, the bar's height is raised incrementally, narrowing down the field until only a single athlete remains standing. The team were busy organising and supporting the third iteration of the Cobbler Hill Race as part of the Scottish Hill Running Championship 2024 at the weekend. Despite the dreich conditions up top, the race was an enormous success and a credit to the amazing performance by all the runners. Well done! A lot of hard work goes into making this race happen. We would like to offer our huge thanks to the Artgartan Hotel, Forest Holidays at Artgartan for hosting us, and to fyneales & hellyhansen for donating their fabulous prizes. We would also like to thank the volunteers from @westerlandsccc and Sharon & Jamie from @protay_timing for their impeccable service as always. Many people have already expressed their gratitude, but we would like to add to this by thanking our amazing volunteers who gave up their free time to marshal the race and provide safety cover for the runners on the hill. Highland games have been a part of Scottish culture for centuries, having originated as a way to select the fiercest warriors, swiftest runners, and most talented musicians and dancers for the entourage of kings and clan chiefs. Traditional sporting events such as the hammer throw and shot put were developed and are now part of the international sporting circuit. The best dancers and pipers were employed to provide entertainment and create tunes and dances that celebrated the virtues and victories of the clan. When not in conflict, the clans would often hold competitions between their athletes, dancers, and pipers, giving great honour to the clan with the best performers. These festivities brought together people from various walks of life to celebrate Scottish culture. Some pics from last Sunday's Brough Law Fell Race in Northumberland. Really fun doing a pressure free race as part of recovery as a bit of a bit to get some hill fitness back in the legs. Did a bit better than expected finishing 12th. Great wee race and lots of friendly faces amongst the NFR runners.
